Job description

Purpose of Position

The Strategic Buyer is a member of the Commodity Team, who reports to the Commodity Manager, in the development and management of suppliers in a specific commodity segment. Through the Commodity Manager, the Strategic Buyer helps to implement the creation of the vision for the supply base to support existing products I services, as well as new products I technology.


Key Responsibilities

    Act as primary interface for Gilbarco and its customers to communicate to suppliers the needs and expectations of product quality, delivery performance and overall company goals.
    Manage suppliers by using processes to coordinate selection of the best source to provide continuous quality, delivery, and cost improvements.
    Collaborate with Engineering to execute change notices and manage the required transitions with the suppliers to minimize the working capital impact.
    Benchmark and interpret market conditions to identify and forecast the impact on cost drivers for the commodity.
    Implement savings projects to drive year-over-year material productivity cost improvements through PPV and VAVE initiatives.  
    Negotiate agreements with suppliers to provide continuous year-over-year improvements in performance, including quality, delivery, cost, and collaboration, through the implementation of programs such as Vendor-Managed Inventory.
    Support Focused Factories and Material Planners as required ensuring a continuous flow of material to support production requirements.
    Participate and support corporate commodity teams in the development and consolidation of the supply base in order to bring the most cost effective solutions to all Danaher/Fortive companies.
 

Background and Skill

Bachelor's degree is required. Two years or more of purchasing experience is preferred. Sound presentation skills and the ability to communicate to the highest levels of management, internally and externally, is key to the role. Negotiation skills have been demonstrated. Team leader and team member effectiveness has been exhibited.  Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is necessary to analyze and report key measures.
