Job description

Position Summary

The Resistance Welding Machine Operator III is responsible for operating, monitoring, setting up, and troubleshooting highly automated, state-of-the-art resistance welding equipment used to manufacture wire mesh cable trays and related components. This role ensures products are produced in accordance with engineering drawings, quality standards, and safety requirements while maintaining efficient operation of the production cell.

Core Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate resistance welding machines to join metal components in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), engineering drawings, and product specifications.
  • Create, modify, troubleshoot, validate, and optimize machine programs, product recipes, and process parameters to support new product introductions and ongoing production requirements.
  • Load, verify, and stage incoming raw materials; monitor automated wire feeding systems and ensure proper machine setup and material alignment prior to production startup.
  • Operate and monitor highly automated resistance welding equipment to manufacture wire mesh cable trays and related products in accordance with engineering specifications, quality standards, and production schedules.
  • Inspect, clean, maintain, and replace welding electrodes, tooling, and consumable components as required to ensure consistent weld quality and reliable equipment performance.
  • Perform operator-level preventive maintenance, routine equipment inspections, machine calibration checks, and basic troubleshooting activities; coordinate with Maintenance personnel for corrective repairs and component replacement when necessary.
  • Adhere to all safety policies, machine guarding requirements, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and overhead crane operating practices while handling materials and operating automated equipment.
  • Accurately document production, quality, and material traceability information, including material identification, inspection results, downtime events, scrap quantities, process deviations, and production output.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities related to safety, quality, productivity, equipment reliability, and waste reduction; participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Support cross-functional manufacturing activities and perform other duties as assigned to meet business and production objectives.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to make machine adjustments and minor mechanical repairs.
  • 3-5 years of experience in resistance welding, preferably in a manufacturing or fabrication setting.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical diagrams.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, measuring devices, and basic manufacturing tools.
  • Understanding of welding principles, metallurgy, and shop mathematics.
  • Attention to detail, ability to follow precise instructions, and willingness to work repetitive production tasks.
  • Basic computer literacy for record-keeping.
  • AWS Certified Resistance Welding Technician (CRWT) credential preferred.
  • Comfortable working around targe, automated machinery and computer-controlled systems.
  • Able to lift up to 70 pounds, bend, and work on your feet in a production environment.
  • Comfortable working around large, automated machinery and computer-controlled systems.
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented, and capable of working both independently and within a team.
  • Strong attendance and punctuality required.
  • Welding background and/or formal mechanical training is a plus.

An aptitude test is required for selected candidates.
