Brightpoint Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and is the third largest of Virginia's 23 community colleges. The college is located within the Greater Richmond metropolitan area. It serves students and the community at its two campuses, in Chester and Midlothian; online; and in locations throughout its service area. Brightpoint Community College's mission is to provide quality educational opportunities that inspire student success and community vitality. It envisions a success story for every student.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide lab assistance to faculty and support the laboratories in the trades departments: Welding, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Electrical Technology, Architecture, Machine Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, and Engineering at Brightpoint Community College. Responsible for assisting the Program Lead in ordering lab equipment and supplies, providing laboratory support to full- and part-time faculty, and performing their duties using safe practices. This person will assist the Program Lead and support the teaching laboratories at both the Midlothian and Chester campuses. The person in this position should have the ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include days, evenings, and/or weekends.
This part-time position will not exceed 29 hours a week.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Knowledge of safety in a skilled trades environment. Ability to work independently and be able to perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving up to 30 pounds. Working knowledge or ability to learn computerized inventory control system and/or databases. Ability to work effectively with adults in an educational setting. Demonstrated ability to work independently and utilize good organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a diverse population of faculty and staff. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team within a laboratory setting. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer with current software programs. Successful completion and passing of criminal background check are required
