Title: Robot Programmer I
Hourly Pay Grade: 2
JOB SUMMARY:
Leadership role within the Welding Department obtaining the highest possible Safety, Quality,
Delivery and Cost metrics in robotic welding environment, while working in a fast-paced
production atmosphere. Define and/or modify robot systems when quality issues arise. Support
efficient and logical programs and techniques that satisfy the needs of Robot Operators,
Programmers, Engineering Teams, and Polaris' Customers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Exhibits a consistently positive attitude and professional demeanor under pressure
• Provides superior customer service to the Welding Department and all subsequent
customers
• Delivers support for robotic welding process development and continuous improvement
• Designs and implements new programs and tests for all robotic machines
• Plans and executes robot programming activities of upcoming products
• Communicates effectively and consistently with counterparts on other shifts, fosters and
builds a healthy team dynamic
• Understands how to set up, fine tunes, and operates a complete robot welding cell
• Takes on leadership responsibility for maintenance of robot systems
• Coordinates troubleshooting activities with Maintenance, Tool & Die, and Robot/Welding
Suppliers to resolve issues with robotic and associated mechanized processes
• Supports and maintains robot data collection for troubleshooting, keeps accurate day to day
maintenance log of robot systems
• Oversees training of Editors and Operators across all shifts
• Assists Supervisors in monitoring robot quality and productivity
• Leads quality improvement projects within Welding to analyze and interpret best course of
action for improvement
• Troubleshoots machine variances to maintain product quality
• Maintains OSHA compliance and corporate safety standards within the department and
company
• Develops, maintains, and updates standard operating procedures and other process related
activities
• Works with Weld Engineer to develop & maintain weld procedure qualification records and
weld procedure specifications
• Performs macro cut/etch for procedure validation purposes
• Executes time studies regarding robot cycle time and cell flow
• Keeps neat, clean, and orderly work area
• Accepts miscellaneous duties as required
• Takes on overtime as necessary, and understands "on-call" duty may be required
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
• High School Diploma or GED
• 2-Year technical degree preferred
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• 4-years experience as a Robot Editor or Programmer. (Yaskawa Motoman preferred)
• 1-Years previous welding experience and familiarity with GMAW processes
• 5-Years experience in an industrial environment
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, & Outlook
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work with little supervision
• Aptitude to read and interpret engineering prints, processes, and procedures
• Capable of electrical trouble shooting
• Detail orientated and accurate, maintains high degree of professionalism
• Proficient at programming multi-robot, multi-axis, and coordinated motion programs
• Capacity to understand complex electromechanical systems
• Basic aptitude of pneumatic & hydraulic circuits
• Working knowledge of programmable logic controllers and servo drives
• Knowledge of high-volume production weld tooling and tooling techniques for robot
success
• Able to provide recommendations for support of capital projects for new robot systems
• Capable of using offline programming software (MotoSIM or CENIT FASTSUITE)
• Advanced understanding of arc welding processes and variables (i.e. the relationship
between arc weld amperage, voltage, and travel speed)
• Advanced knowledge of GMAW equipment, troubleshooting, and maintenance
• Comprehends Polaris weld visual acceptance and macro cut/etch criteria
• Must have fork lift certification or earn within 3 months of hire
• Must be willing to travel for training, and will be required to complete basic and advanced
courses as offered
Base Pay Range:
$24.84 - $29.68
