Scale Operator


Job Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Scale Operator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring and controlling incoming and outgoing vehicles, shipments, and containers through the use of scale and software systems. The successful candidate will ensure all transactions are accurately documented and processed while providing excellent customer service in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet customers in a professional and friendly manner and direct incoming loads to the appropriate areas of the facility.
  • Accurately weigh inbound and outbound vehicles, carriers, and company trucks using scale systems.
  • Process and maintain scale tickets, bills of lading, purchase orders, packing slips, and other related documentation.
  • Record supplier information, vehicle identification, material grades, weights, contract numbers, and load destinations.
  • Apply load deductions, pricing adjustments, and contract updates as directed.
  • Process customer payments, payment adjustments, and issue cash payments when required.
  • Prepare, issue, and submit cheques with supporting documentation for authorization.
  • Maintain daily records of purchase and sales transactions.
  • Perform daily cash reconciliation and balance transactions accurately.
  • Answer and direct incoming telephone calls.
  • Maintain radio communication with yard personnel and respond appropriately to operational and emergency situations.
  • Ensure all customers and visitors comply with site safety procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Monitor and operate the main yard arm and gate access as required.
  • Organize, file, fax, and maintain all paperwork and records in accordance with company procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow 5S workplace standards.
  • Provide professional service while effectively managing challenging customer situations.
Qualifications & Skills
  • High School Diploma or GED required; post-secondary education is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong data entry and administrative skills with a high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong telephone etiquette and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Cash handling and reconciliation experience is an asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with customers, drivers, carriers, dispatch, operations, and management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of materials handling, logistics, or industrial operations is an asset.
