What does a Weekend Watch Repair Technician do?

A Weekend Watch Repair Technician is responsible for diagnosing and repairing various types of watches, including mechanical, automatic, and quartz movements, during weekend shifts. Their tasks often include battery replacements, strap adjustments, cleaning, lubricating, and fixing internal mechanisms. They may work at jewelry stores, repair shops, or as independent service providers. The role requires attention to detail, fine motor skills, and knowledge of watch components and tools. Weekend shifts are ideal for customers needing service outside of regular business hours.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Watch Repair Technician?

To excel as a Weekend Watch Repair Technician, you need a solid understanding of horology, fine motor skills, and experience with watch repair, often obtained through vocational training or apprenticeship. Familiarity with specialized watchmaking tools, ultrasonic cleaning machines, and timegrapher systems is typically required. Strong attention to detail, patience, and effective customer communication set top technicians apart. These competencies ensure precise repairs, customer satisfaction, and the ability to meet the unique demands of weekend service schedules.

What are some common challenges faced by Weekend Watch Repair Technicians, and how can they be addressed?

Weekend Watch Repair Technicians often manage a high volume of repairs in a limited timeframe, which can be challenging when dealing with intricate or vintage timepieces. Prioritizing organization, maintaining a well-stocked inventory of parts, and honing time management skills are crucial for meeting customer expectations efficiently. Additionally, clear communication with customers regarding repair timelines and limitations helps manage expectations and build trust. Collaborating with experienced colleagues or participating in ongoing training can also assist in troubleshooting complex repairs.

What is the difference between Weekend Watch Repair Technician vs Watchmaker?

Both roles share some skills but differ in complexity, credentials, and work setting.

  • Conduct complete testing and quality control of all repairs, including watch functions and water resistance.
  • Log repairs, track progress, and manage quality of items in stock.

You are energized by:
  • Working in a highly collaborative environment
  • Collaborating with passionate teammates
  • The opportunities that outstanding repairs capability can deliver in strengthening the brands relationship with the customer.
  • The need to learn and evolve constantly, ensuring the brand is always at the cutting edge of what is possible.
  • The Watch & Fine Jewelry product and wider industry.

What you will bring to the team:
  • Proven expertise in luxury watch repair and diagnostics.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and diplomatically to staff and clients.
  • Collaborative spirit-build relationships with the Central Repair Workshop and support boutique teams.
  • Confidence and presence in a luxury retail environment, engaging clients daily and at events.
  • Detail-oriented approach and ability to perform initial analysis on all incoming repairs.
  • Familiarity with maintaining stock quality, including battery updates and light polishing.
  • Good understanding of repair equipment and equipment maintenance.

  • 5+ years' experience repairing luxury timepieces (from diagnostics to total revision).
  • Formal training in watchmaking or equivalent experience.
  • Computer literacy for repair tracking and claims management.
  • Experience with 18K fine jewelry repairs a plus.
  • Familiarity with polishing equipment, including flex shaft and full-sized polishing machines, preferred; candidates without this experience will receive on-the-job training
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, patient, and proactive.
  • Ability to stand and lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Full-time, 100% on-site in a retail store environment.
  • Flexible schedule, including weekends.
