What is a weekend videographer?

Weekend videographers are professionals who specialize in filming video content primarily during weekends. They often cover events such as weddings, parties, sports games, or corporate functions that occur outside of the typical workweek. These videographers are skilled in using cameras and editing software to capture and produce high-quality videos tailored to their clients' needs. Their flexible schedules make them ideal for clients who need coverage on Saturdays and Sundays. Many weekend videographers work freelance or as part of media production teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend videographer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Videographer, you need proficiency in video recording, editing, and storytelling, often backed by experience or formal training in videography or multimedia production. Familiarity with cameras, lighting equipment, audio gear, and editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro is essential. Creativity, flexibility, and strong time management skills help you adapt to different shooting environments and client needs. These skills ensure the production of high-quality, engaging videos that meet both technical standards and client expectations.

What are some common challenges weekend videographers face when covering events, and how can they be managed?

Weekend Videographers often encounter fast-paced environments, unpredictable lighting, and the need to capture high-quality footage on tight schedules. Being prepared with backup equipment, scouting event locations in advance, and maintaining clear communication with clients and team members can help manage these challenges. Flexibility and quick problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to adapt to last-minute changes or unexpected occurrences during weekend events.

What is the difference between Weekend Videographer vs Freelance Videographer?

AspectWeekend VideographerFreelance Videographer
CredentialsBasic video production skills, sometimes with specific event experienceSimilar skills, often with a portfolio and client management experience
Work EnvironmentPrimarily on weekends, often at events like weddings or partiesFlexible, varies by project, can include events, corporate videos, or personal projects
Employer/Industry UsageUsually hired by event companies or clients for specific weekendsWorks independently or through platforms, serving multiple clients

The main difference is that Weekend Videographers typically work on a part-time basis during weekends for specific events, often hired by event companies. Freelance Videographers have a broader scope, working independently on various projects with flexible schedules. Both roles require similar skills, but their work settings and client interactions differ.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct on-camera and recorded interviews, building quick rapport and drawing out authentic, compelling narratives
  • Proven ability to plan and execute projects with little direction; strong tolerance for ambiguity and a rigorous attention to detail
  • Experience with AI tools and technologies to enhance productivity and decision-making in professional settings highly desired
  • Excellent communicator with a track record of collaborating effectively and diplomatically in cross-functional teams
  • Ability to multi-task, manage multiple deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Experience in insurance, health care, e-commerce, or retail industries preferred

What You Will Do at Cambia:

  • Produce, shoot, and edit a variety of video projects for Cambia Health Solutions and its affiliated health plans, ensuring content meets brand, editorial, and accessibility standards
  • Lead video projects in collaboration with teams across the organization, communicating with business partners to understand goals and counsel them on best storytelling approaches
  • Coordinate all aspects of scheduling and production logistics, including equipment, talent, supplies, set-up, lighting, camera placement, and audio
  • Conduct on-camera and recorded interviews with confidence, drawing out authentic and compelling narratives from a range of subjects - from C-suite executives to the general public
  • Assemble compelling stories from disparate pieces of information and multiple points of view into a clear, engaging video framework
  • Research and secure accurate, relevant assets and permissions for use in video production across intended audiences and platforms
  • Develop and maintain video style guides, content strategies, best practices, and production processes in collaboration with the Marketing team
  • Pay ranges vary based on the candidate's work location. The expected hiring range depends on skills, experience, education, and training; relevant licensure/certifications; and performance history.

The expected hiring range is $76,500-103,500, the full salary range is $72,000-117,000 and the bonus target is 10%.
