Job description

Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT)

Full-Time (Part-Time Considered) | Onsite | Maryland

Compensation

  • $30.00-$40.00 per hour

  • Compensation is based on a combination of: Licensure status, Years of experience, Neurology/specialty experience, Technical skills and overall qualifications

  • Licensed Veterinary Technicians generally start around $30/hour

  • Veterinary Technician Specialists (VTS) and highly experienced candidates may earn closer to $40/hour

  • Overtime opportunities available

Sign-On Bonus

  • $2,500 Sign-On Bonus

Schedule

  • Full-Time preferred; Part-Time candidates will also be considered

  • Monday-Friday

  • Rotating schedules:

    • 4 x 10-hour shifts

    • 5 x 8-hour shifts

  • Rotating weekends (approximately one weekend per month)

  • Weekend on-call coverage until 3:00 PM

  • Six rotating holidays annually shared among the technician team

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist neurologists with patient examinations, diagnostics, and treatments

  • Monitor anesthesia during surgery, MRI, CT, and advanced imaging procedures

  • Assist in anesthesia protocol development and implementation

  • Perform blood collection and IV catheter placement

  • Prepare patients for surgery and imaging procedures

  • Monitor hospitalized neurology patients

  • Calculate medications and CRIs accurately

  • Maintain detailed patient medical records

  • Communicate with pet owners regarding treatment plans and discharge instructions

  • Collaborate closely with specialists and support staff

  • Ensure exceptional patient care and safety throughout hospitalization

  • Mentor veterinary assistants after completing the training period

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT) or eligible for licensure prior to employment

  • Strong anesthesia knowledge and hands-on anesthesia experience

  • Experience assisting with anesthesia protocols (not solely monitoring)

  • Strong patient care and nursing skills

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced specialty environment

  • Compassionate, detail-oriented, and organized

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in one or more of the following is preferred but not required:

  • Veterinary Neurology

  • Emergency or Specialty Practice

  • Mechanical Ventilation

  • MRI/CT Anesthesia

  • Continuous Rate Infusions (CRIs)

  • Medical Calculations

  • Urinary Catheter Placement

  • Autoclave Operation

  • Surgical Preparation

  • IDEXX

  • EzyVet

  • CUBEX

  • VetRadar

Candidates from general practice with strong anesthesia and surgical experience are encouraged to apply.
