Job description

Veterinary Surgical Center of Long Island (โ€œVSCLIโ€)ย is seeking a currentย New York State Licensed Veterinary Technicianย to join our Team. We are staffing full-time and part-time positions in our Surgery Department AND ICU Department.ย 

VSCLI is aย privately ownedย Specialty Referral Practice and a 24-Hour Emergency Care Hospital in Huntington, NY. Our brand-new 10,000 square hospital opened its doors in May 2024. Our newย state-of-the-art hospitalย is equipped with a CT, MRI, 2 digital x-ray suites, ultrasound, in-house laboratory, and Snyder oxygen cage. VSCLIโ€™s specialty services are focused on Surgery and Emergency Medicine.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Nursing care of patients in the ER/ICU: including, but not limited to: restraining patients, administering medications PO/IV/SUBQ/IM, maintaining bandages, proficient IV catheter placement, venipuncture and urine collection.
  • Perform diagnostic testing, including Radiography (x-rays). CT and MRI experience is a plus.
  • Performs physical exams on animals including a variety of animal health assessment procedures encompassing diagnostic lab tests (for in-house lab tests and off-site lab testing).
  • Responsible for accurate & timely data entry in our computerized system regarding patient vitals, medical status, urination, bowel movements.
  • Administration of anesthesia, intubation, monitoring of patients while under anesthesia and during recovery.
  • Post-Surgical patient care and monitoring while in ICU recovery.
  • Proficient in animal restraint.
  • Promotes responsible pet ownership and answers questions concerning animal health, behavior, and care.
  • Other duties as assigned, including responding to an emergency event.
  • Ensures that the clinic areas are kept clean, sanitized and always uncluttered.
  • Surgical experience would be beneficial. This would include prepping an animal for surgery, intubation, monitoring anesthesia during surgical procedures, assisting the surgeons in the OR, maintaining and sterilization of instruments and surgical equipment and keeping surgical areas clean.
  • On-call responsibilities.

ยท Must possess strong communication skills, good judgment and be able to manage stressful situations, and work with others on a team respectfully.

Position Qualifications

ยท Current New York State Licensed Veterinary Technician.

ยท High School Diploma (or equivalent), Associates Degree, or Bachelorโ€™s Degree.

ยท Minimum 2-3 years of LVT experience.

ยท Knowledge of basic veterinary medical terminology.

ยท Must be a TEAM PLAYER.

ยท Ability to lift minimum 40 pounds.

ยท Ability to use a computer.
