Job description

Description

The CADD Designer is responsible to use CAD equipment to provide design support to engineers and surveyors by preparing routine layouts, detail drawings, sketches and diagrams. Make copies of drawings and maintains information regarding changes to database. Make decisions but refers most questions/problems to engineers or supervisor. Has a solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with engineering terminology. Possesses drafting aptitude with ability to complete mathematical calculations. Has familiarity with CAD equipment, complex design and redlines.   

Requirements

1. The primary duties of the CAD Designer/Technician, with occasional assistance from Project Engineers and Project Surveyors, is to produce plats of surveys, drawings, layouts, details, sketches, site plans, and graphic representations of engineering designs using computer-aided design and drafting software on a variety of projects, which will include exposure to projects involving environmental, roadway, site development, municipal utility, and plats of survey.

 
 

2. Requires ability to interpret construction documents and apply technical knowledge in interpreting the best solution for plan presentation. Will perform routine and complex CAD assignments requiring application of standardized drawing techniques and may perform geometry and develop terrain modeling.

 
 

3. The position requires the candidate to have a dual expertise in Bentley OpenRoads Designer implementing the Illinois Department of Transportation standard, and expertise in Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D. Experience with ESRI ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro is a plus.

 
 

4. The ability to produce plans for various disciplines is an important ability for the successful candidate. We are looking for a well-rounded individual with expertise in multiple disciplines.  The need to be capable of crossing discipline lines is paramount to completing job assignments.

 
 

Education and/or Experience: 

Associate degree in CAD or industry related field a plus.

Processing field survey data and importing into MicroStation or Open Roads

Working on IDOT, Chicago Dept. of Water Management, CDOT, etc. type engineering or surveying projects.

Minimum of 5 years' experience with civil design and survey drafting.

AutoCAD Civil 3D Experience required.

Bentley MicroStation V8i and GeoPak in IDOT Standard experience required.

Bentley Open Roads Designer in IDOT Standard experience beneficial.

Experience in multiple fields of civil engineering

Working knowledge of alignments, surfaces, points and profiles.

Possess good verbal, analytical, writing skills, and attention to detail.

Proven ability to read and understand both 2D and 3D drawings.

Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
