What is a weekend travel agent?

A Weekend Travel Agent is a travel professional who assists clients in booking trips, accommodations, and transportation, primarily on weekends. They cater to travelers needing flexible scheduling, last-minute bookings, or weekend-specific travel plans. Responsibilities include researching destinations, coordinating itineraries, and providing customer support. This role is ideal for those with strong customer service skills and a passion for travel. Many Weekend Travel Agents work remotely or for agencies that offer extended hours.

What are the main responsibilities of a weekend travel agent and how does the weekend schedule differ from weekday roles?

As a Weekend Travel Agent, your primary responsibilities include assisting clients with booking flights, hotels, tours, and handling any issues or changes that arise outside regular business hours. Weekend shifts often mean responding to urgent travel requests, last-minute itinerary modifications, or supporting travelers during their trips. You may work independently or as part of a small team, collaborating closely with suppliers and support staff to deliver prompt solutions. This role suits individuals who are comfortable with a flexible schedule and enjoy dynamic, fast-paced work environments where exceptional customer service is essential.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the weekend travel agent position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Travel Agent, you need strong organizational abilities, in-depth knowledge of travel products and destinations, and customer service experience, often supported by prior work in the travel industry or relevant certifications. Familiarity with booking platforms such as GDS (Global Distribution Systems), CRM software, and travel management tools is often required. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills set outstanding agents apart, especially when handling last-minute requests or changes. These capabilities ensure efficient, personalized service for clients during peak weekend hours and help build lasting customer relationships.

Can I become a weekend travel agent as a side hustle?

Weekend travel agents can often work part-time or freelance, making it feasible as a side hustle. Success typically requires strong customer service skills, knowledge of travel booking tools, and the ability to manage flexible schedules outside regular working hours.

  • Partner with internal Product team to streamline Agent Product Solutions with a focus on user experience and operational efficiency
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Compliance, and Legal teams on campaign development, ensuring all deliverables meet partner specifications and timelines

  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and results-oriented team culture that drives engagement and retention
  • Set clear team priorities and manage workload distribution, ensuring resources are allocated effectively across concurrent initiatives

What We're Looking For:

  • 10+ years of Travel Agency experience with a focus on strategy, technology, training, and business development
  • Deep knowledge of Travel Agencies' booking systems, their UX and capabilities
  • Proven experience developing training materials and delivering training in-person or via webinar
  • Excellent analytical and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities calmly under pressure and ambiguity
  • Methodical problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently
  • Demonstrated experience managing direct reports, team development, and budget oversight
