The Driver works independently but under the supervision of the Security & Transportation Manager, and accepts and completes chauffeuring assignments as scheduled by the Transportation Coordinator. We especially are looking for someone with afternoon/early evening availibility.
Qualifications:
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Keeps driver's license updated and remains eligible for licensing.
  • CPR Certification preferred or willingness to get certified.
  • Ability to communicate well in English with older population in a pleasant, understanding, tolerant, and professional manner.
  • Genuine interest in geriatric care.
  • Is available when necessary for evening and weekend hours.

Competences:
  • Works independently and efficiently under stressful conditions with many interruptions.
  • Maintains professional appearance.

Essential Functions of the Job:
  • Knows area and acts as chauffeur to residents for regularly scheduled trips as well as unscheduled trips planned by the Department of Community Life.
  • Observes and reports problems to the proper party and attends meetings, training, etc., as required.
  • Observes safe driving habits and pays particular attention to aiding passengers entering and exiting the vehicle.
  • Is knowledgeable and trained on the operation of all fleet vehicles and in properly securing wheelchairs during transport.
  • Recognizes various problems encountered in the transport of residents such as stairs, ramps, wheelchair accessibility, and accommodates accordingly.
  • Must be able to properly assist residents who may have medical problems away from The Forest at Duke campus.
  • Must be able to act independently without supervision on any problems that may arise while in transport.
  • Must be able to recognize problems with vehicle and act independently.
  • Must be able to drive safely in all types of weather conditions.
