Job description

HVAC Service Controls Technician

Hunter-Davisson, Inc. is a commercial HVAC-R Design Build Mechanical Contractor seeking a Controls Tech to join our growing team. The person we are seeking is a team player who is organized, has solid worth ethic and demonstrates outstanding customer service.

Our brand and reputation for providing quality HVAC and refrigeration service, preventative maintenance and installations in the commercial market has led to our continued success. 
The Service Controls Technician’s primary responsibility is to support our service and maintenance customers and will occasionally assist the installation department with startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting. Duties will include remote and onsite troubleshooting and repair, of mechanical, electrical, and DDC systems up to the level of programing. This position participates in the rotating Controls on-call schedule.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain, diagnose, repair, and install HVAC-R equipment as it pertains to controls.
  • Perform mechanical diagnostics and repairs as they arise.
  • Evaluate integrated communication network from third-party software into Honeywell controls.  
  • Install, maintain and program Building Automation Systems of varying brands.
  • Remote Controls customer support including making schedule changes and set point adjustments.
  • Follow Cyber Security training and cyber protocols. Perform routine digital backups for company issued laptops.
  • Periodically back up customers’ controls databases.
  • Assist in maintaining customer service site controls credentials in password vault.
  • Collaborate with Service Operations Manager and HVAC-R Technical Manager to maintain the service site alarm protocol and suggest changes as needed.
  • Assist technicians on PMs where controls are involved.
  • Train technicians on how to log in and navigate controls systems.
  • Administer user accounts in controls sites for certain technicians as needed.
  • Perform rotating duties as the Controls technician on-call during evening, weekend hours, and holiday hours.
  • Complete time entry daily using appropriate payroll codes.
  • Attend all company and department meetings.
  • Proactively engage in all aspects of company safety program.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND PROFICIENCIES:

  • Completion of the HVAC Apprenticeship program.
  • Completion of PCC HVAC-R courses or an equivalent program.
  • Active Oregon or Washington state-issued HVAC Journey card.
  • Must have a minimum of Type I and II CFC certification.
  • Valid Oregon or Washington driver's license.
  • Oregon Limited Energy-B or WA06-A License required.
  • Oregon Class III or V Boiler’s License required. 
  • Honeywell N4 certification
  • Working knowledge of
    • Various Building Automation Systems
    • Trane Controls such as Intellipak
    • Honeywell DDC programming
    • Integration and Service Controls of Daikin and Mitsubishi
  • Stay current on new and old field devices (such as Spyder, Cyper).
  • Proficient in the use of computers.  Programs include: Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills with internal and external customers.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Continuous self-improvement and proactive mindset.
  • Willing to work in both a team setting as well as individually. 
  • Flexible, accommodating, and adaptable to constant change. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • May be required to drive for long periods of time during a regular workday.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Occasionally climb up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other climbing devices.
  • Must be able to load and unload packages with and without dollies in various types of weather.
  • Carry tools and equipment; work while in stooped, kneeling, crouched and crawling positions.
  • See naturally with or without correction, to safely perform designated tasks.
  • Ability to maintain focus and continuously be aware of surroundings.
