Heavy Equipment Mechanic - Lafayette, LA
Highway Graphics, a leading highway marking and safety company operating throughout the South-Central U.S., seeks a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic based in the Lafayette, LA region. We maintain a diverse fleet, including highway marking trucks, pickups, one-ton trucks, TMA Attenuator trucks, trailers, and specialized grinding and construction equipment.
Position Overview: The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will report directly to the Branch Manager and is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing trucks and specialized equipment. The successful candidate will ensure all fleet vehicles and equipment remain safe, operational, and compliant with company standards.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform thorough inspections and preventive maintenance on trucks, heavy equipment, trailers, and related machinery.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair engines, electrical (12-volt systems), pneumatic (air), hydraulic, and furnace components efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date service and repair records.
  • Safely operate and maintain shop equipment, tools, and diagnostic systems.
  • Communicate effectively with the Branch Manager and operational teams regarding equipment status, repairs, and maintenance schedules.
  • Follow established safety guidelines and company procedures at all times.

Job Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant mechanic experience, ideally with trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment.
  • Detailed understanding of 12-volt electrical systems, pneumatic (air), hydraulic, and furnace components.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Certification from a vocational school preferred.
  • Must possess your own set of mechanic's tools suitable for heavy equipment work.
  • Ability to clearly follow procedures and take direction.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Additional Information and Requirements:
  • Must have a valid driver's license. A minimum of a Class B CDL is required; Class A CDL preferred.
  • Valid email address for communication.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Comfortable working in various conditions, both indoors and outdoors, and performing physically demanding tasks.
  • Regularly lift and carry equipment and tools weighing 50+ lbs.
