Weekend Theoretical Physicist information

What is the difference between Weekend Theoretical Physicist vs Part-Time Research Scientist?

AspectWeekend Theoretical PhysicistPart-Time Research Scientist
CredentialsAdvanced degree in physics or related fieldRelevant advanced degree, often in science or engineering
Work EnvironmentAcademic or research institutions, labs, or remoteResearch labs, universities, or industry
Industry UsagePrimarily academia and research projectsResearch and development across various sectors
Work ScheduleLimited to weekends or part-time hoursFlexible, often part-time or project-based

Weekend Theoretical Physicists and Part-Time Research Scientists both hold advanced degrees and work in research environments. The main difference lies in their work schedules and industry focus, with Weekend Theoretical Physicists typically dedicating weekends to theoretical work, while Part-Time Research Scientists may have more flexible hours across different sectors.

What is the average pay for a weekend theoretical physicist?

Weekend theoretical physicists typically earn between $30 and $80 per hour, depending on experience, education, and the complexity of research tasks. Since this role often involves part-time or consulting work, annual salaries vary widely and are usually project-based or hourly rates rather than fixed salaries.

What jobs can a weekend theoretical physicist get?

A weekend theoretical physicist can pursue roles such as research assistant, data analyst, or consultant in scientific or technical fields that value analytical and problem-solving skills. These positions often involve part-time or flexible schedules, and may require familiarity with programming, modeling, or simulation tools. Opportunities can be found in academia, private research firms, or technology companies seeking expertise in complex systems.

Job description

Job Summary:
General Matter is a company focused on enriching uranium and restoring America's ability to produce nuclear fuel. They are seeking a Simulation Software Engineer to design and build high-fidelity simulators for critical physics and hardware system modeling, working closely with various engineering teams to enhance testing and simulation capabilities.
Responsibilities:
• Architect and own simulators for large, distributed systems with complex interactions, feedback loops, and failure modes.
• Model system dynamics and control behavior across nominal and off-nominal operating conditions.
• Build scalable infrastructure for high-volume simulation, scenario generation, and automated validation.
• Define correctness criteria and validate simulation outputs against test and real-world data in partnership with systems and hardware teams.
Qualifications:
Required:
• BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
• 7+ years of experience building simulators for complex, real-world systems.
• Strong programming skills in C++ and/or Python with experience handling large data flows.
• Deep understanding of modeling distributed systems, control systems, or physical processes.
• Experience validating simulations against empirical data or hardware-in-the-loop setups.
• High standards for correctness, robustness, and engineering rigor.
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
Preferred:
• Experience simulating industrial, aerospace, energy, or similarly complex systems (e.g., chemical plants, rockets, power grids).
• Background in control theory, numerical methods, or systems modeling.
• Experience running large-scale simulations for design validation or fault analysis.
• Familiarity with performance optimization and parallel or distributed simulation.
• Experience operating in high-stakes engineering environments where correctness is critical.
Company:
General Matter is a nuclear energy company that produces enriched uranium fuel for nuclear energy applications. Founded in 2024, the company is headquartered in San Francisco, USA, with a team of 11-50 employees. The company is currently Early Stage.
