Position:ย  Special Education Teacher (1.0 FTE) - EBD License preferred
Job Description: Kasson Mantorvilleย School District is seeking a Special Education Teacher.ย Duties include providing special education support for students by developing materials and lesson plans, conducting classroom instruction and evaluating and assessing student performance. The incumbent will meet with parents, interpret student progress, and inform parents/guardians about student strengths, weaknesses, and progress. Preference for teachers with a current teaching license in Special Education or another license area & willing to get an Out of Field license.

We are located between the cities of Kasson and Mantorville.ย  Kasson is the home of a vibrant downtown district and Mantorville is known for its historic presence in SE Minnesota.ย  The communities are fifteen minutes from downtown Rochester, home of the Mayo Clinic and IBM and approximately one hour south of the Twin Cities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned.

Provide research-based special education services identified on the Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) of students with disabilities

Provide special education services in a variety of service delivery models

Comply with all state and federal special education rules and regulations

Facilitate IEP meetings; schedule and hold IEP meetings within required timelines

Collaborate with Building Administrator and Special Education Coordinator and IEP members to develop IEPs.

Complete IEPs and progress notes in a timely manner

Participate in the special education evaluation process, including complying with all state and federal special education rules and regulations, as assigned

Supervise the work of assigned paraprofessionals and assist with their performance evaluations (this position does not have authority to hire, terminate or discipline)

Be knowledgeable in the state standards, skills and content of their assigned curriculum areas of teaching

Participate in district-provided training related to crisis intervention skills and techniques. ย Utilize approved verbal de-escalation skills and behavior management techniques during crisis intervention, including physical restraint in an emergency situation as prescribed by district procedures, provided training, and Minnesota statutes.

Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines and state or national standards; implement and teach the core values established by our school as the focus of instruction and discussion when appropriate

Uses formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction

Keeps attendance and grade records as required by school. ย Utilize our Infinite Campus system and enter grades in a timely fashion

Analyzes classroom data to inform his or her teaching and small group instruction

Integrates technology into their teaching and professional activities

Collaborates with PLC team on curriculum, planning and student needs.

Creates and works toward ongoing communication with parents in a variety of forms

Implements school and district policies and procedures

Collaborates with other professionals/stakeholders working with the student. ย 

Maintains familiarity with and be prepared to implement current district and building Emergency Procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job supervises the work of assigned paraprofessionals but has no formal authority to hire, terminate or discipline staff.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in education or an equivalent combination of education and experience permitting one to obtain appropriate licensure as a teacher by the Minnesota Department of Education.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common journals, reports, and education related documents. ย Ability to respond to common inquiries or concerns from students, caregivers, regulatory agencies, or members of the school community. ย Ability to write lesson plans and other materials that conform to commonly accepted style and format. Ability to effectively present information to students, caregivers, management, and colleagues.

Mathematical Skills

The ability to analyze and understand data represented multiple ways (charts, graphs, etc.); identify trends or 'root causes' in data; and calculate with percentages.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Google Docs and a strong background in instructional technology platforms.
