Job description

Senior Systems Engineer
Candidates must be able to obtain and/or maintain a Department of Defense Top Secret Security Clearance as a condition and continuation of employment
Description
A leading systems integrator is seeking a talented and mission-driven Senior Systems Engineer to support a large-scale digital infrastructure network design and deployment program in support of the U.S. Department of Defense.
This program delivers a secure, resilient, multi-enclave digital infrastructure supporting modern command-and-control operations. The network architecture spans Unclassified through TS/SCI environments and integrates advanced commercial and government technologies, including cloud computing, SD-WAN, enterprise cross-domain solutions, data distribution networks, scalable transport, and data link integration modules across globally distributed operational sites.
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will serve as a key technical contributor on a system-of-systems engineering team, translating government requirements into actionable designs, supporting work package development, and ensuring seamless integration of foundational network capabilities across all security enclaves and operational environments. Your work will directly support mission-critical decision-making across modern defense operations.
Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as a senior technical contributor on a system-of-systems engineering team supporting the planning, design, development, and integration of digital infrastructure network features and sub-features across major and minor releases.
  • Translate government-provided work packages into detailed systems engineering designs, Bills of Materials (BOMs), deployment procedures, and supporting technical documentation for foundational network capabilities, including cloud infrastructure, SD-WAN, enterprise cross-domain solutions, data distribution networks, scalable transport, and data link integration modules.
  • Perform systems engineering analysis and design activities across multiple security enclaves, ensuring designs meet government-defined operational requirements, technical objectives, and security standards.
  • Support the development and maintenance of system architecture artifacts, including interface control documents, system design documents, and technical baselines required for government-led configuration control boards.
  • Conduct trade studies, technical assessments, and engineering analyses to evaluate design alternatives and inform program decision-making.
  • Collaborate with network managers, design work package teams, test engineers, cybersecurity personnel, and government stakeholders to deliver integrated, deployment-ready system designs.
  • Support the development and review of SD-WAN orchestration policies, network routing architectures, firewall configurations, DNS designs, and encryption architectures.
  • Apply Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and Configuration-as-Code (CaC) principles to support automated provisioning, configuration management, and remote update capabilities.
  • Identify and architect dependencies between the digital infrastructure network and enterprise IT or base infrastructure, developing mitigation strategies to reduce integration risk.
  • Support quarterly release planning events and 90-day release cycles, contributing to feature decomposition and work package planning.
  • Participate in technical interchange meetings, design reviews, and program milestone events, providing senior-level engineering recommendations.
  • Mentor junior systems engineers and cross-functional team members, establishing engineering standards, design best practices, and high-quality technical documentation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field with 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • 5-8 years of experience in a senior systems engineering role supporting large-scale defense systems integration, network infrastructure, or command-and-control programs.
  • Demonstrated experience performing systems engineering design, analysis, and documentation for complex systems-of-systems environments.
  • Strong understanding of network architecture concepts including SD-WAN, cloud infrastructure, cross-domain solutions, and multi-enclave security environments.
  • Experience developing systems engineering artifacts such as architecture documents, interface control documents, BOMs, and deployment procedures.
  • Familiarity with defense systems engineering frameworks and compliance processes (e.g., DoDAF, RMF/ATO).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to brief technical findings to senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% to CONUS and OCONUS locations.
Desired Skills
  • INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) or Associate Systems Engineering Professional (ASEP).
  • CompTIA Security+ or equivalent baseline security certification.
  • Cloud infrastructure certifications (e.g., AWS).
  • Experience designing and deploying SD-WAN solutions from leading OEMs (e.g., Cisco, VMware, Palo Alto).
  • Familiarity with secure government cloud environments and multi-level security architectures.
  • Experience with Zero Trust Architecture and Identity, Credential, and Access Management (ICAM).
  • Knowledge of enterprise cross-domain solution design, accreditation, and integration.
