About The Role:
Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of cutting-edge cloud-based integration, automated testing and data analysis for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking an Associate Systems Engineer to be part of our Advanced Capabilities team and based out of our Arlington, VA location.
 
Associate Systems Engineers is a highly technical engineer within a fast-paced, customer-focused development, deployment, test and experimentation team. This role requires a highly motivated engineer ready to work on designing, testing, integrating, deploying, and operating complex software and hardware systems in mission-critical environments.
 
The Associate Systems Engineer will work on a team designing, architecting, and integrating complex DoD software systems, participating in test execution efforts in the field, interface directly with senior warfighters and government sponsors, and helping resolve complex integration and operational issues during test events. This role is hands-on, forward-deployed, and requires strong judgment and adaptability in high-visibility environments.
 
Clearance & Location Requirements:
  • All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
  • This is an on-site position. Requiring at least 5 days in office, based out of our Arlington, VA location.
 
What You Will Do: 
  • Define and Scope Solutions: Interpret stakeholder needs to establish clear, prioritized requirements and success criteria that drive project outcomes.
  • Design and Architect Systems: Participate in the development of structured, scalable system designs that balance performance, reliability, and long-term sustainability.
  • Integrate, Deploy, and Validate Systems: Assist in the deployment, installation, configuration, and operational support of complex software and hardware systems supporting DoD and Navy operational and developmental testing. Troubleshoot and resolve system, network, software, and integration issues during live test and experimentation events.
  • Leverage Insights and Data: Analyze customer feedback, research findings, and performance trends to inform design direction and enhance system effectiveness. Analyze test results and provide clear, actionable assessments against requirements, including recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Collaborate and Share Knowledge: Collaborate directly with senior engineers, warfighters, test directors, and government sponsors to define objectives, schedules, and execution plans.
 
Who You Are (Required):
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or other STEM field, or equivalent full-time professional experience.
  • 0-1 years of full-time professional experience
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time as needed
  • Determine SysML model implementation of Systems Engineering designs, including verification methods
  • Experience using architecture framework like DoDAF/UPDM/UAF
  • Troubleshooting skills across software, networks, hardware, and operational processes.
  • Understanding of the activities described by the Systems Engineering V-Model
  • Ability to understand system behavior through reading system specifications and requirements
  • Ability to design, develop, and analyze software systems
  • Ability to perform many concurrent assignments and determine the need for changing priorities
  • System integration and test experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members
  • Familiarity with the software development process (requirements through deployment)
 
What Makes You Stand Out
  • Experience and proficiency with Requirements Management tools (e.g. DOORS)
  • Experience with scripting or implementing algorithms in C++, Python, JavaScript, Java, MATLAB or other languages
  • Background in one or more related disciplines (Software Engineering, Cyber Security, IT, Networking).
  • Experience with VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi and vCenter.

Pay Range*: $72,000 - $114,450
This amount may not be reflective of actual compensation that may be earned as pay is dependent on a candidate’s experience, skills, and education. The posted range does not include bonuses, commissions, tips, or other benefits. IDT is often looking to place multiple candidates at various levels. Therefore, more than one pay range has been included, commensurate with experience.
