Program Director: Associate of Science in Surgical Technology Program
Lasell University - Newton, Massachusetts
Position Summary
Lasell University seeks an experienced and visionary Program Director for the Surgical Technology Program to lead, develop, and sustain a high-quality, ARC/STSA CAAHEP accredited Associate of Science degree program that prepares students for successful careers as surgical technologists. The Program Director is responsible for academic leadership, program administration, accreditation compliance, faculty supervision, curriculum development, student recruitment, advising, and retention. This is a 12-month academic administer position that reports to the AVP of Workforce Development within the division of strategic initiatives.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to Lasell University's mission of connected learning, academic excellence, and workforce readiness, while maintaining strong partnerships with clinical affiliates and employers.
Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Administration
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Surgical Technology Program.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards (e.g., ARC/STSA, CAAHEP) and all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and manage accreditation reports, site visits, and ongoing program assessment activities.
  • Develop and implement program policies, procedures, and continuous improvement plans.
  • Manage program resources, laboratory, and equipment.
  • Support the delivery of the program in an online/hybrid environment at the local, regional, and national level.
Curriculum & Instruction
  • Design, implement, and evaluate curriculum aligned with accreditation standards and industry needs.
  • Teach didactic, laboratory, and/or clinical courses as assigned (minimum of 1 course per semester: Fall, Spring, and Summer).
  • Integrate emerging technologies, simulation, and best practices into teaching and learning.
  • Ensure alignment with certification requirements (e.g., NBSTSA).
Faculty & Staff Supervision
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, mentor, and evaluate program faculty, adjuncts, and clinical instructors.
  • Promote professional development among faculty.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and student-centered teaching environment.
Clinical Partnerships
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with healthcare institutions for clinical education in collaboration with the Coordinator of Clinical Education.
  • Support the coordination and oversight of clinical placements with the Coordinator of Clinical Education and ensure compliance with affiliation agreements.
  • Collaborate with clinical partners to ensure student competency and workforce readiness.
Student Success & Advising
  • Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress, clinical performance, and career pathways.
  • Monitor student outcomes including retention, graduation rates, and certification pass rates.
  • Address students concerns and support an inclusive, supportive learning environment.
Assessment & Outcomes
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive assessment plan for quality assurance and academic rigor.
  • Collect, analyze, and report program outcomes data.
  • Lead program evaluation processes and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure documentation supports accreditation and institutional effectiveness efforts.
Service & Engagement
  • Represent the program in professional organizations and community outreach.
  • Support recruitment, marketing, and admissions efforts for the program.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Surgical Technology, Health Sciences, or a related field
  • Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through NBSTSA (or equivalent credential as required by accrediting body).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of recent clinical experience in surgical technology.
  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching or instructional experience, preferably in an accredited surgical technology program.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience with program accreditation processes (ARC/STSA, CAAHEP, or similar).
  • Previous experience as a Program Director or in academic program leadership.
  • Experience in curriculum development, assessment, and outcomes reporting.
  • Familiarity with simulation-based education and instructional technologies.
  • Established relationships within the regional healthcare community.

Work Environment & Expectations
  • This position includes occasional evening or weekend commitments.
  • Engagement with clinical sites requires local travel.
