Job Title: Sports Coordinator Job Status: Part-Time, Grade 6


Base Pay Rate: $19.45-$24.06 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Director of Sports Revision Date: 07/09/2026


POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Director of Sports, the Sports Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the implementation of high-quality sports programs designed to meet the needs of the community. The Sports Coordinator supports the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility while achieving program satisfaction, involvement, engagement, and participation. This position reports to the Director of Sports.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide supervision to onsite and offsite sports programs including but not limited to supervising evening sports league practices and refereeing weekend sports league games as needed.
  2. Instruct preschool, school-age, and teen sports classes and clinics.
  3. Play a supporting role in implementing new programs to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  4. Build out team rosters and identify volunteer coaches for upcoming sports seasons.
  5. Maintain the cleanliness of the gym, sports closet, and equipment.
  6. Maintain inventory of sports equipment.
  7. Assist in launching sports seasons and all supporting roles that are needed throughout the season.
  8. Communicate with participants all necessary information about the upcoming leagues and programs.
  9. Oversee adult sports leagues.
  10. Oversee day-to-day duties of the gym attendants
  11. Other duties as assigned.

NECESSARY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree or obtaining a degree in a related field.
  • Related experience running sports or recreational leagues.
  • Related experience in overall organizing of sports leagues, tournaments, and gym scheduling.
  • Knowledge of different sports.

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and basic computer skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • CPR/AED certified or willingness to obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.

The Bloomington-Normal YMCA adheres to the strictest regulations pertaining to Child Abuse Prevention and requires all staff and volunteers to complete Child Abuse Prevention Training at time of hire and on an annual basis. Other required trainings and certifications, provided by the YMCA during on-boarding or within the first 60 days of employment, include: Illinois Mandated Reporter Certification, Illinois Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Training, CPR/AED/First Aid certification, and OSHA training including Bloodborne Pathogens.
