Job description

Description
The Sports Communications Manager plays a vital role in advancing the New York Athletic Club's enduring commitment to elite and Olympic sport. This position is responsible for strengthening the connection between the Club's distinguished athletes and its membership by ensuring their accomplishments, stories, and contributions are meaningfully integrated into the life of the NYAC.
Through thoughtful communication and engagement initiatives, this role helps reinforce athletics and wellness as a defining pillar of the Club while fostering pride, awareness and connection among members.
Key Responsibilities
  • Shape and elevate the weekly on-line Athletics News into a signature Club communication that is engaging, informative and reflective of the NYAC's leadership in top class sport.
  • Develop and curate content across all Club platforms-including The Winged Foot, social media, the Club web site, and in-house digital displays-to consistently highlight athlete achievements and athletic programming.
  • Conduct and produce interviews with NYAC athletes, capturing their competitions, accomplishments and backgrounds for use across print, digital and broadcast channels.
  • Create and support opportunities for meaningful interaction between NYAC athletes and members, both in person and through virtual programming.
  • Partner closely with the NYAC's Athletic Chairs and program leaders to ensure timely, accurate and compelling communication of athletic activities and accomplishments.

Requirements
Qualifications
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to reflect the tone, tradition, and standards of the New York Athletic Club.
  • In-depth knowledge of the sports of the Summer Olympic Games, and an appreciation for elite competition.
  • Demonstrated experience in journalism across print, broadcast or digital platforms.
  • Proficiency in digital and print content creation, including layout and publishing tools.
  • Strong inter-personal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with athletes, members and Club leadership.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic, member-focused environment.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends, as necessary, in order to produce timely competition results, most particularly during times of major championships.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Communications, Journalism, Sports Management or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in communications, journalism or sports media.

Preferred Attributes
  • Experience in a private club, athletics organization, or similarly mission-driven institution.
  • A genuine appreciation for the NYAC's history, traditions and role as a global leader in Olympic sport.
  • A passion for communicating the stories behind the world finest athletes.
