Job description

Job Description
Tech I performs specimen receiving, processing, transport/delivery/distribution, and storage. Prepares specimens for diagnostic and prognostic analyses and testing. Delivers specimens to testing areas as needed. Operates a variety of manual and automated laboratory and office equipment and programs, enters information, performs order entry, troubleshooting, and retrieves and verifies patient collection data and patient special notations using appropriate laboratory and electronic health systems and other applications. Ensures and maintains positive patient identification throughout all processes and performs all job duties and responsibilities in a safe, accurate and professional manner. Resolves pre-analytic specimen-related issues in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs). May process, prepare, and ship specimens for transport to internal Mayo Clinic lab sites and referral labs.
May prepare and ship mail out kits. May perform reagent preparation and handling, assist with supply inventory and stocking operate automated systems, provide training to others, clerical, processing, filing, receiving shipments, cleaning, and other job-related duties as assigned. Must adhere to strict safety requirements for laboratory protocols and handling chemicals, reagents, and infectious agents. Assists with consultant specimen retrieval, responds to a high volume of phone calls seeking laboratory testing/order information or add-ons, and participates in assigned quality or other lab projects as needed. Performs duties in a professional and ethical manner. Demonstrates professional communication skills as well as proper technique and etiquette for answering the telephone and providing information. Must be able to learn and utilize multiple computer systems. The individual must demonstrate confidentiality and trustworthiness as well as the ability to deal effectively with people in stressful situations.
Tech I- Lab Processors are an integral part of the laboratory team providing support in patient testing. Must be able to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment and be able to work independently as well as in a team environment. Works with minimal supervision and attention to detail is essential.
This vacancy is not eligible for sponsorship/ we will not sponsor or transfer visas for this position. Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED required. Minimum of 1 year specimen processing and handling, accessioning, clinical lab, and/or other relevant lab or clinical experience.
Associate's degree in a health or science related field preferred.
Additional Qualifications:
Previous experience or knowledge of computers and keyboarding, lab automation, medical terminology, telephone operations and other office equipment, and prior exposure to clinical lab environment preferred.
