Weekend Remote Electrical Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Remote Electrical Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Remote Electrical Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering principles, experience with circuit design, and a relevant degree such as a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Familiarity with CAD software, simulation tools like SPICE, and remote collaboration platforms is typically required, along with certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE) being advantageous. Strong problem-solving, time management, and effective communication skills are crucial for independent remote work and collaborating across teams. These skills ensure the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions and seamless project progress during off-hours.

What are some common challenges faced by weekend remote electrical engineers, and how can they be managed effectively?

Weekend remote electrical engineers often encounter challenges such as limited access to on-site equipment, coordinating with colleagues who work standard weekday hours, and managing work-life balance due to unconventional schedules. To address these, it's helpful to establish clear communication channels with team members, proactively schedule meetings or check-ins during overlapping hours, and leverage remote-access tools for troubleshooting and design tasks. Staying organized and setting boundaries for personal time also contribute to maintaining productivity and well-being in a weekend remote setup.

What are Weekend Remote Electrical Engineers?

Weekend Remote Electrical Engineers are professionals who work from a remote location, typically during weekends, to design, develop, or maintain electrical systems and components. Their responsibilities may include troubleshooting electrical issues, supporting ongoing projects, or assisting with urgent tasks outside regular business hours. This role is ideal for companies needing continuous technical support or for engineers seeking flexible work schedules. Communication is usually conducted through digital collaboration tools, and tasks are often managed via project management software.

What is the difference between Weekend Remote Electrical Engineer vs Weekend Remote Electrical Technician?

AspectWeekend Remote Electrical EngineerWeekend Remote Electrical Technician
CredentialsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, PE license often preferredAssociate's or technical diploma in Electrical Technology, certifications like IPC or OSHA beneficial
Work EnvironmentDesign, analysis, and project planning remotely; occasional site visitsTroubleshooting, maintenance, and installation support remotely; on-site work less common
Industry UsageEngineering firms, consulting, product developmentManufacturing, maintenance services, field support

The main difference is that Weekend Remote Electrical Engineers focus on designing and planning electrical systems, requiring higher-level degrees and licenses, while Weekend Remote Electrical Technicians handle troubleshooting and maintenance, often with technical diplomas. Both roles can be performed remotely on weekends, but their responsibilities and credentials differ.

Job description

We made history and now we work to transform the future - for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters.

At Ford, our commitment to engineering the world's best performance vehicles isn't just a business goal, it's our origin story. It began in 1901 when Henry Ford's "Sweepstakes" race car utilized mechanical fuel injection and insulated spark plugs to win his first and only race. That victory provided the notoriety and funding to launch Ford Motor Company.

Today, that same spirit drives the Ford Racing team. From the sands of Baja to the pavement of Le Mans, our success on the track fuels the development of our road-going icons. We are the team behind the Raptor, Mustang GT350, the legendary Ford GT, and the next generation of high-performance vehicles.

Product Development uses design thinking & user experience methods to deliver breakthrough products and services that delight our customers. We bring innovative, exciting, and sustainable ideas to life.We have opportunities around the world for you to contribute to advancements in autonomy, electrification, smart mobility technologies, and more!

In this position...

  • The Ford Racing Electrical Team is seeking an independent, empowered, and passionate Electrical Systems Integration Engineer.
  • In this role, you will be the technical glue that holds our vehicle programs together, leading the pre-design, design, and launch phases of current and future Ford Racing programs.
  • You will ensure that the "Ford Racing DNA" is woven into every electrical circuit and system we build.

You'll have...

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5-7+ years of experience in automotive electrical systems.
  • Experience in new vehicle launch environments.
  • Proficiency with Ford engineering tools and processes (GPDS, FEDE, WERS, AIMS, DFMEA).
  • Technical experience with CAN tools (CAN log collection, module software flashing, Bus Queries, VSCS, or Novellus Data Logger).

Even better, you may have...

  • Master's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • A deep-seated passion for performance vehicles.
  • Proven ability to handle complex tasks under compressed "racing-speed" timelines.
  • Strong "Ford OS" leadership behaviors with the ability to build relationships across multi-functional teams (Studio, Purchasing, Body Engineering, and Vehicle Operations).

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!

As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home? Will your career be a deep dive into what you love, or a series of new teams and new skills? Will you be a leader, a changemaker, a technical expert, a culture builder...or all of the above? No matter what you choose, we offer a work life that works for you, including:

  • Immediate medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage
  • Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, subsidized back-up child care and more
  • Family building benefits including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, fertility treatments, and more
  • Vehicle discount program for employees and family members and management leases
  • Tuition assistance
  • Established and active employee resource groups
  • Paid time off for individual and team community service
  • A generous schedule of paid holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year's Day
  • Paid time off and the option to purchase additional vacation time.

This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $86,600-$144,900.

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $99,100-$166,200.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
