Job description

A Maintenance Technician is essential to the success of our 24/7 float glass manufacturing operation. This role is responsible for maintaining the performance and dependability of complex, high-temperature equipment that is critical to the continuous float glass production process

This position’s primary schedule follows a 223, days - 12-hours ROTATING shift.  This schedule provides every other weekend off, only working half the days of the year.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in heavy industrial settings and demonstrate strong expertise in industrial maintenance practices, including mechanical, electrical, and control systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

This job requires a clear understanding of confined space entry, plant safety policies and hot work permitting including hazard assessment. Responsibilities will involve maintaining many different systems including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Electrical distribution, plant air, and process water systems.
  • Batch mixing and weighing systems.
  • Furnace gas train, air handling systems and the furnace reversal system.
  • Tin bath operation and refractory repair.
  • Attenuator operation with emphasis on water jacket/rotary union repair and rebuild.
  • High temperature resistance heater systems, repair high temperature insulation.
  • Laser based glass defect detection and automatic glass inspection systems.
  • Maintaining vibration analysis on high-speed fan impellers and bearing Systems.
  • Proper maintenance of x & y glass cutters and snap roll systems.
  • Siemens programmable logic controllers and the Bailey distribution control system.
  • Maintaining high temperature lifts out and conveyor rolls.
  • Robotics systems.
  • Continuous emissions monitoring systems and electrical control systems
  • Glass fabrication equipment design, installing and repairing glass bubblers.

 Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or its equivalent.
  2. 2-years technical degree or 3 years of experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment.
  3. Experience in fabrication and welding is preferred.
  4. Electrical Troubleshooting Skills
  5. Mechanical Troubleshooting Skills
  6. Pneumatics Experience
  7. Hydraulics Experience
  8. Troubleshooting Industrial Automation Equipment
  9. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  10. Pass a pre-employment physical ability test, background check and drug screen

Physical requirements and equipment to use.

  • Physical requirements include lifting to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, standing, stooping, working overhead, in temperature extremes, working in confined spaces, wearing a respirator (passing the pulmonary test). Able to work in high areas 
  • Equipment to use includes hand tools, power tools, and mobile equipment.
  • PPE
  • Respirator, hearing protection, safety shoes, safety glasses with side shields, white gloves, locks for lock-out, hot hoods, hot jackets, uniform, coveralls, Arc flash PPE, welding protective gear.
