Job description

The Opportunity

The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting clinical operations at RIPC Medical Group by providing direct patient care assistance, performing administrative duties, and ensuring smooth workflow in a multi-site medical practice environment. This position works closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and clinical staff to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.

What you'll do

  • Provide direct patient care, including rooming patients, collecting medical history, and assisting with examinations
  • Take and record vitals
  • Medication reconciliation
  • Perform EKGs
  • Obtain PHQ-9, GAD-7, and SDOH screenings at annual visits
  • Administer vaccines per MD request
  • Understand & review quality gaps in care that can be closed at the time of visit; enter results appropriately in EHR
  • Pre-visit planning, including preventative and chronic care management
  • Care coordination including following up with patients on referrals, care needs, and outreach  to appropriate resources
  • Check staff messages for MD requests (example: scheduling follow ups or overdue appts)
  • Medication refills
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical record documentation
  • Fulfill administrative responsibilities such as answering & documenting phone calls, scheduling, fax, scan, inventory (table paper, paper gowns, etc.)
  • Prior Authorization
  • Cleaning and organization of exam rooms, assisting with procedures, and sterilization of equipment
  • Verifying patient information, confirming the purpose of the visit
  • Preparing patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards
  • Stock and maintain medical supplies and equipment
  • Additional responsibilities include computerized appointment scheduling, telephone reception, and chart work

    Quality and Compliance:

    • Follow infection control and safety protocols
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives
    • Maintain current knowledge of clinical protocols and procedures
    • Ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazardous waste
    • Support ACO quality metrics and reporting requirements
    • Other duties may be assigned as necessary
