Job description

Deseret Cattle and Timber is seeking a highly effective Cowboy/Herdsman to join our local ranch team!
Summary:
The Cowboy SE is responsible for overseeing the care of cattle, horses, pastures, equipment, stock water systems and fencing at the farm property.
Responsibilities:
  • Make sure cattle always have enough water, grass, and secure fencing.
  • Help cattle grow well by meeting weight and performance goals.
  • Keep costs at or below budget targets and suggest improvements to the foreman.
  • Help plan how the land and grazing will be used each year.
  • Continue learning and improving skills through training.
  • Follow and promote safety practices at all times.
  • Keep accurate records and reports on cattle and operations.
  • Maintain fences, corrals, equipment, and other facilities so they are clean and in good condition.
  • Help ensure the property is secure.
  • Work well with coworkers, lease holders, and customers while representing the ranch professionally.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required, degree in Animal Science or a related field is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with cattle.
  • Ability to ride and handle horses and work cattle safely.
  • Experience operating farm equipment, such as tractors.
  • Basic welding and equipment repair skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

Working conditions:
  • Comfortable performing common livestock care tasks such as vaccinating, tagging, branding, and other procedures.
  • Physically able to lift up to 75 lbs and push or pull up to 200 lbs.
  • Able to stand, walk, or ride a horse for long hours.
  • Willing to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
