Diagnostic Medical Sonographer / Ultrasound Technologist (RVT):

Position: Diagnostic Medical Sonographer / Ultrasound Technologist
Positions Available: 3
Contract: 1 Year + 4 Option Years
Schedule: Days, Nights, Weekends & Holidays
Hours: 40 hours/week baseline
 

Job Summary:

We are seeking experienced Diagnostic Medical Sonographers / Ultrasound Technologists to support the Radiology Department at the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS).

The Sonographer will perform a variety of general and vascular ultrasound examinations, obtain high-quality diagnostic images, accurately document examinations, and provide technical support for physician interpretation. The position may also support ultrasound-guided invasive or interventional procedures when applicable.

 Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform diagnostic general ultrasound and vascular studies according to established protocols.
  • Perform vascular imaging examinations, including appropriate Doppler and vascular techniques.
  • Obtain high-quality diagnostic images and ensure appropriate image labeling and documentation.
  • Apply knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy to accurately perform and document examinations.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, explain procedures, and provide appropriate patient care throughout the examination.
  • Position patients appropriately and operate ultrasound equipment safely and effectively.
  • Assist with ultrasound-guided invasive/interventional procedures when applicable.
  • Review images for technical quality and completeness before submitting them for physician interpretation.
  • Maintain accurate patient and examination documentation.
  • Utilize PACS and other applicable radiology information systems.
  • Follow VA policies, infection control procedures, patient safety standards, and departmental protocols.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized ultrasound environment.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and report equipment malfunctions or technical issues.
  • Communicate effectively with radiologists, physicians, nurses, technologists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in on-call/pager coverage as required by departmental needs.
  • Provide timely support for urgent and emergent ultrasound examinations.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of the position as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography/Ultrasound program or equivalent qualifying education and experience.
  • Current RDMS and/or RVT certification, or primary Ultrasound certification through ARRT(S).
  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Demonstrated experience performing general and vascular ultrasound examinations.
  • Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, ultrasound physics, and imaging techniques.
  • Ability to recognize and obtain appropriate diagnostic views and images.
  • Strong patient-care, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a hospital radiology environment.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call coverage and flexible scheduling.

Current RDMS and/or RVT certification, or primary Ultrasound certification through ARRT(S). Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
