Job description

Purpose of the Position:

The Expeditor ensures timely delivery of materials and services by coordinating with suppliers, logistics providers, and internal stakeholders. The jobholder reports on supplier performance and makes recommendations on improvement actions to be taken.

Core Job Functions:

  • Ensure a smooth and efficient supply of goods and materials to the fleet:
    • Monitors and tracks ‘Purchase Orders’ from Supplier via warehouses and freight forwarders until delivered on-board vessel to ensure on-time delivery of goods and services
    • Work with shipping companies to bundle shipments in a cost-effective manner with the intent of reducing transportation costs to the extent possible while ensuring materials arrive to the vessels when needed
    • Escalate supply chain disruptions and propose mitigation strategies.
    • Supports the Purchasing team with requisitions and request for quotes as directed
    • Assists the Accounting Dept. for disputed invoices related to material items and freight forwarding
    • Process invoices for purchased items in a timely manner
  • Monitors supplier performance and make recommendations for enhancing the value of the supplier and its products to the company
  • Provide back-up support for warehouse functions as directed
  • Ensures that the company’s purchasing procedures are followed, manages the rectification of non-conforming products and makes suggestions on revisions to the procedures and working instructions to improve the integrity and effectiveness of the purchasing process
  • Works closely alongside and in conjunction with all departments in OSG. It is therefore imperative that this person has an extremely good working relationship with them, and ensure that all resources, knowledge and information are readily shared among the team. This person must foster good working relationships based on honesty, integrity and good commercial sense.
  • Manage miscellaneous projects as they may be delegated from time to time
  • Participates in ad-hoc or cross-functional teams or working parties as required to meet specific projects’ targets and objectives
  • Assure all available discounts and credits are properly applied to purchases
  • Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor or manager

Core Competencies:  

  • 3-5 years purchasing experience in the Maritime Industry preferred
  • Transportation logistics, warehousing and inventory control experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Excellent computer skills, proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office suite
  • High ethical values
