Job description

Board-Certified Pulmonary/Critical Care Physician

A facility in Iowa is seeking a Board-Certified Pulmonary/Critical Care Physician for PRN coverage. This is a high-acuity inpatient opportunity with ICU coverage, procedures, and strong APP support.

Position Details
  • Location: Iowa
  • Start Date: PRN / Ongoing coverage
  • Practice Setting: Inpatient (ICU + Rounding/Admitting)
  • Support: NP/PA support available
  • Call Ratio: 1:4
  • EMR: Cerner (transitioning to Epic in Oct 2026)
Patient Volume
  • ICU Patients: ~18/day (with NP support)
  • Inpatient (non-ICU): ~10/day (with NP support)
  • Admissions: 3โ€“5/day
Facility Details
  • Trauma Level: III
  • Total Beds: โ‰ค300
  • ICU Beds: 20
  • Critical Care Team: 3 Physicians
  • Additional Support:
    • 3 APPs (Monโ€“Fri Days)
    • 1 NP (Weekend Days)
    • 1 PA (Weekday Nights)
  • No additional Critical Care physician during locum coverage
Procedures & Skills Required
  • Ventilation Management:
    • Invasive (ETT, NT, Tracheostomy)
    • Non-Invasive (BiPAP/CPAP)
  • Required Procedures:
    • Central Line, Arterial Line
    • Chest Tube Insertion
    • Bronchoscopy (with BAL)
    • Thoracentesis & Paracentesis
    • Pulmonary Function Testing
    • Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS)
    • ION (preferred)

Candidate Requirements
  • Board Certified in Pulmonary/Critical Care
  • Active Iowa License or IMLC (LOQ required at name clear)
  • Fellowship in Pulmonary & Critical Care
  • Proficiency in EBUS (ION preferred)
  • ACLS Certified
  • Clean malpractice & background
