Job description

Morningside University is seeking an enthusiastic, student-focused Part-Time Writing Specialist to provide individualized writing support approximately 25 hours a week. In this role, you’ll help students develop confidence, critical-thinking skills, and effective written communication across academic disciplines and professional settings.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide one-on-one feedback on essays, research papers, reports, resumes, and other documents.
  • Support students with organization, clarity, grammar, punctuation, style, and development of ideas.
  • Help students interpret assignments, develop thesis statements, integrate sources, and use APA, MLA, and other citation styles.
  • Teach brainstorming, drafting, revising, proofreading, and self-editing strategies.
  • Coach students in adapting their writing for different disciplines, audiences, and purposes.
  • Foster independent learning through constructive, inclusive, and encouraging feedback.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Writing, Education, Communications, or a related field.
  • Three years of teaching experience or equivalent experience.
  • Strong writing, communication, interpersonal, and active-listening skills.
  • Experience in tutoring, teaching, mentoring, a writing center, or higher education is preferred.
  • Commitment to support students from diverse academic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
