Job description

Overview
The Chief Engineer oversees the planning, organization, and development of the maintenance department, including the management of the grounds-keeping team. This role is responsible for coordinating preventive maintenance programs, managing renovation bids, and overseeing the department's financial operations to ensure efficiency and compliance with organizational standards.
Responsibilities
Chief Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead, schedule, and inspect daily maintenance and grounds operations to ensure high standards in guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house
  • Hire, train, coach, and manage maintenance and grounds staff in compliance with company, state, and federal regulations
  • Conduct performance reviews and motivate the team to meet departmental goals
  • Develop and oversee maintenance programs for facilities, equipment, landscaping, and emergency procedures
  • Manage department finances, including budgets, inventory, labor, and supply costs
  • Coordinate renovation projects-scope, budget, contractor oversight, and quality assurance
  • Act as liaison for special projects, handling subcontractor communication and invoicing
  • Monitor service-related metrics, such as guest satisfaction and TripAdvisor reviews
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and safety standards
  • Delegate tasks with consistent follow-up and documentation
  • Respond to and log maintenance requests from staff and guests
  • Collaborate with homeowner services as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
What are we looking for?
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality business, team members may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the resort, including weekends and holidays
  • Prior experience leading and developing a maintenance team required
  • Strong knowledge of building maintenance systems (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, electrical, general repairs) preferred
  • CPO certification and pool maintenance experience
  • Background in hospitality or condotel environments
  • Strong multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Self-motivated with a high sense of responsibility and initiative
  • Proficiency with general office PC applications (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, databases)
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and reliable
  • Committed to delivering exceptional guest service and fostering team collaboration
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to confidently interact with guests, team members, leadership, and homeowners.
