Job description

The Department of Agriculture, Geosciences and Natural Resources seeks an Assistant or Associate Professor in Animal Science, full-time, 9-month, tenure-track.
The position will be 100 percent teaching in the Department of Agriculture, Geosciences and Natural Resources.  The Department of Agriculture, Geosciences and Natural Resources is dedicated to excellence in teaching and providing students with high impact experiential learning opportunities through undergraduate research, collegiate competition, service projects and travel. Five Bachelor of Science degrees are offered in Agricultural Business, Agriculture, Geosciences, Natural Resources Management, and Veterinary Science and Technology. Animal Science is one concentration in the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree which also includes: Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Science, and Plant and Soil Science.  The Department houses the Center of Excellence for Experimental Learning in Agricultural Science; and operates a 680-acre teaching and research farm to support faculty and students. Current enrollment includes 1,172 undergraduate and 38 graduate students with 35 faculty.

The candidate will have an earned doctorate in Animal Science, Agriculture, or related field with 3-5 years of experience in livestock production and management, with a record of teaching at the college level. Candidates with a background in ruminant production that has meat science or food safety experience is also desirable as we look to the future and build on the strengths of faculty currently teaching in the animal science program. If a suitable candidate is not found, we may consider a person with an ABD doctorate at rank of assistant professor. A candidate with an earned Master of Science in animal science with 1-2 years of college teaching experience may be considered at rank of lecturer.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with teaching experience in areas of cattle management, small ruminant production, swine production, poultry production, animal nutrition, animal breeding and genetics, livestock evaluation, and animal reproduction will be given precedence.
