About Lightsource bp
Lightsource bp is a global leader in the development and management of solar energy projects and is on a mission to become a global leader in onshore renewable energy, anchored by our proven track record in solar development.
For over a decade we've worked to diversify how the world is powered through sustainable, responsible renewable energy. We deliver affordable, reliable, large-scale solar and energy storage solutions that help accelerate the global transition to low-carbon power.
Our business continues to grow rapidly as we innovate and invest in projects that support long-term sustainable growth and energy security. Lightsource bp was fully acquired by bp in 2024, strengthening our ability to scale renewable energy globally.
The Opportunity
Lightsource bp is seeking a Director, Procurement (Americas) to lead strategic procurement efforts supporting the deployment of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and solar projects across the United States.
This leadership role will partner closely with development, engineering, construction, finance, legal, and executive leadership to secure critical equipment and services, manage supplier relationships, and drive procurement strategies that safeguard project delivery and commercial performance.
The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in renewable energy procurement, global supply chains, and complex equipment negotiations, particularly within the rapidly growing BESS market.
What You'll Do
Strategic Procurement Leadership
  • Develop and execute procurement strategies that optimize pricing, delivery, quality, and risk mitigation across large-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Lead procurement initiatives supporting Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) while also supporting solar (PV) and emerging energy infrastructure projects.
  • Drive category strategies and market intelligence to navigate global supply chain dynamics, policy changes, and geopolitical risks.

Supplier & Contract Management
  • Lead RFP processes, supplier evaluations, and commercial negotiations for critical project equipment and services.
  • Negotiate complex contracts for battery storage systems, PV equipment, high-voltage components, and related infrastructure.
  • Build and manage strategic relationships with global suppliers and manufacturers.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with internal teams including development, engineering, finance, legal, insurance, power marketing, and construction to support project execution.
  • Assist with financial close processes and external diligence related to procurement scopes.
  • Facilitate execution of NDAs, Letters of Intent, and commercial agreements with key counterparties.

Project & Supply Chain Oversight
  • Monitor equipment procurement schedules and coordinate delivery to project sites.
  • Support safe harbor equipment procurement strategies related to ITC/PTC qualification.
  • Work closely with HSQE and compliance teams to evaluate suppliers and ensure safe, quality project execution.

What We're Looking For
Knowledge
  • Renewable energy procurement with experience in global sourcing and international supplier negotiations
  • Deep knowledge of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) technologies and procurement strategies
  • Strong understanding of PV equipment including modules, inverters, trackers, racking systems, and HV equipment
  • Experience with market intelligence, category strategy, and supply chain risk analysis
  • Familiarity with international logistics and import/export requirements

Experience with datacenter power solutions, natural gas turbines, or hybrid energy systems is a strong plus.
Skills
  • Strong commercial negotiation and contract management capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships across suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Experience managing procurement for technically complex equipment and infrastructure
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to work within a global, cross-functional organization

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM, engineering, business, or related field
  • MBA preferred
  • Professional certifications such as CPSM, CSCP, or CIPS preferred
  • Fluency in English required; Spanish or Mandarin is a plus

Experience
  • 10-12+ years of professional experience with 5-7 years in procurement leadership roles
  • 5+ years of direct experience with utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Procurement or supply chain experience within renewable energy, infrastructure, or EPC environments
  • Experience supporting large-scale projects (200-1000 MW) including batteries, substations, and high-voltage equipment
  • Track record of executing multi-year framework agreements with global suppliers

Why You'll Make a Great Member of the Team
  • Collaborative team player who thrives in complex, cross-functional environments
  • Driven negotiator with strong commercial instincts
  • Proactive problem solver who can navigate fast-moving markets
  • Self-starter with a flexible "can-do" attitude
  • Strong ability to build relationships across global teams and suppliers
