The successful candidate is collaborative, deadline-driven, highly organized, and passionate about creating polished visual communications that support audience growth, engagement, and brand awareness.
What You'll Do
Design Production & Asset Development
  • Assist in the creation of digital and print marketing materials, including social media graphics, email marketing assets, website promotional graphics, event collateral and signage, advertising creative, presentation materials, environmental materials, and out-of-home assets.
  • Resize, adapt, and version creative assets for multiple platforms, formats, and audience touchpoints.
  • Prepare production-ready files for print vendors, advertising partners, internal stakeholders, and digital distribution.
  • Support the development of marketing campaigns, promotional materials, branded collateral, and presentations.
  • Help maintain and update The Banner Brand Style Guide.
  • Stay current on design trends, audience behaviors, and emerging digital storytelling formats.

Brand Stewardship
  • Support the Senior Graphic Designer in maintaining brand consistency across all audience touchpoints.
  • Ensure creative materials align with The Baltimore Banner's visual identity and brand standards.
  • Maintain consistency across multiple Banner brands, products, campaigns, and platforms.
  • Organize and maintain design files, templates, and creative asset libraries.

Collaboration
  • Work closely with the Director of Brand Strategy and Senior Graphic Designer and collaborate with marketing, sales, product, newsroom, events, philanthropy, and people and culture teams on creative projects.
  • Incorporate feedback efficiently while balancing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and creative concept development.
  • Assist with quality assurance reviews to ensure accuracy in design, formatting, production specifications, and brand execution.

Workflow & Operations
  • Manage production schedules and prioritize assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain organized project files, documentation, and version control.
  • Support ongoing improvements to design processes, templates, and creative workflows.
  • Help ensure creative requests are delivered on time, accurately, and ready for use across platforms.

What You'll Bring
  • 1-3 years of professional experience in graphic design, production design, or a related creative role. Internship and freelance experience will be considered.
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Strong understanding of print production processes and digital asset preparation.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and file management skills.
  • Strong typography, layout, and visual storytelling skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with Canva, Figma, or motion graphics tools.
  • Portfolio demonstrating production design, marketing, brand, or campaign-related work.

Nice to Have
  • Interest in journalism, media, civic engagement, or community storytelling.
  • Familiarity with design thinking and/or user-centered design.
  • Video editing skills.
  • Illustration skills.
  • Positive attitude, curiosity, and willingness to learn from feedback.

Additional Information:
