Job description

Oneida Health Hospital is currently seeking a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) for a position in the Post-Anesthetic Care Unit (PACU). This would be a 12 hour day position with night call requirements (call during the week and weekend call rotation). This position specializes in the critical care of patients recovering from anesthesia after surgeries; monitoring vital signs, managing pain, and watching for complications. The PACU RN will provide immediate post-operative care, manage airway stability, educate families, and facilitate patient discharge or transfer to an inpatient unit. This position reports to the Manager and/or Director of the Surgical Services Department. The ideal candidate will be able to work both independently and as part of a team while treating patients with kindness and consideration.

Key Responsibilities:

· Utilizing critical thinking, time management, and organizational skills in order to take care of adult and pediatric patients immediately after surgery.

· Applying in-depth knowledge of patient safety and care when assessing patients post-surgery

· Assessing and treating patients' pain immediately post-surgery using different methods.

· Adhering to safety standards and precautions when assisting the surgical team at the bedside for procedures like blood patches, cardioversions, intubations , and nerve blocks.

· Showcasing your superior communication skills as a team player

· Using keen observation skills to assess if possible immediate interventions / treatments are warranted.

· Remaining calm and professional in crisis and emergent situations

· Assuring patients that they are our number one priority and that their safety matters.

Qualifications:

Education:

· Associate of Nursing (Required)

Certifications:

- New York RN (Required)

- BLS (Required)

- ACLS (Required)

- PALS (Required)

Experience:

- PACU: 1 year (Required)

- Medical Surgical : 2 years ( Preferred)  or Critical Care: 1 year ( Preferred)
