Overview: Sterling Engineering/Staffing is seeking an Industrial Painter for one of our clients in the locomotive manufacturing industry. Sterling has a long history of delivering top talent to clients nationwide, working primarily with Fortune 1000 corporations.
Shifts:
1st Shift: Monday – Thursday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Weekend Shift: Friday – Sunday, 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
3rd Shift: Monday – Thursday, 7:30 PM – 6:00 AM
Hourly Rate: $22/hr

Job Description
Perform all painting, surface preparation, masking, touch-ups, and decal application on locomotives. Maintain painting equipment and booths, and assist with preparing locomotives for shipment. This role requires experience with industrial painting systems and coatings, as well as the ability to read schematics, use hand/power tools, and work safely in a manufacturing environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Move locomotives in and out of paint booths
Power wash units and inspect for leaks
Sand, grind, mud, and glaze dents or defects; perform touch-ups
Mask surfaces and apply stencils and decals
Operate and maintain spray guns, paint mixers, pumps, and other painting equipment
Maintain cleanliness and functionality of paint booths and paint kitchen
Assist with packaging locomotives for shipment
Follow safety procedures and company policies consistently
Accurately measure, calculate, and convert units as needed for painting applications
Education and Training:
Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum 1 year of pressure spray painting experience, preferably on heavy equipment or industrial painting
Knowledge of industrial paint systems including bulk, pressured, syphon, HVLP, and conventional spray
Familiarity with coatings such as polyurethane and CARC
Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and other visual aids
Comfortable using hand and power tools, and performing basic mechanical tasks
Basic PC skills for data entry
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to follow safety procedures and manufacturing protocols
Capable of equipment setup, maintenance, disassembly, and assembly
