As a Machine Operator you will set up and operate radial and gun drill machines/equipment to drill, ream, tap, countersink and spotface a variety of components.

This position is responsible for:

  • Review job orders, drawings and routings to determine job requirements.
  • Obtain tools, gages, fixtures, etc. as needed to set-up and complete the job.
  • Load and unload parts to fixture.
  • Make tooling adjustments in order to maintain dimensions within specified tolerances.
  • Determine when cutting tools need to be replaced and make changes as needed.
  • Check own work using various gaging devices.
  • Operate machines simultaneously as required.
  • Perform secondary operation, such as deburring and gaging during operation cycle of machine.
  • Notify supervisor or other designated personnel regarding equipment or tooling malfunctions which cannot be immediately remedied. Suggest corrective action based on conditions observed.
  • Keep work area safe, clean and orderly.
  • Utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the task.
  • Move materials within the department as required.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions, such as machine dispatch list.
  • Attend and participate in department meetings.
  • Communicate effectively with operators on preceding and following work shifts.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Self-starter. Ability to operate equipment with minimal supervision and/or direction.
  • Ability to use overhead/jib cranes and fork trucks/hand carts.
  • Ability to read and interpret dimensions on blueprints to verify set-ups and part correctness.
  • Ability to use measuring equipment and associate measurements from print to part and vice versa.
  • Ability to read, follow, and interpret standard operating procedures and work instructions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Spends 95% of the time in a manufacturing/shop environment and 5% in an office environment. Will be exposed to possible hazards including working with high-pressure equipment, working in confined spaces, high noise, inclement weather, chemicals, pressure testing, heavy lift operations and shop/field traffic.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Frequent walking, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing upward, crawling in confined workspaces and lifting daily.
