Job description

Lift Operator

Our Lift Operators are the heartbeat of the mountain, ensuring guests load and unload safely while maintaining a positive, welcoming presence at every lift. This role requires attention to detail, clear communication, and the ability to act quickly in a dynamic outdoor environment. Operators are empowered to respond appropriately to anything unusual; whether it's assisting a guest, slowing or stopping the lift, or keeping the work area safe and clear.

Responsibilities

Picture yourself as a Lift Operator at Big Sky Resort and having the opportunity to:

  • Take responsible charge of the lift during your shift—ensuring all operational and emergency procedures are understood and followed
  • Deny access to the lift in unsafe conditions and maintain accurate operational logs
  • Keep your work area clean and hazard-free by regularly shoveling, raking, and removing debris
  • Assist with on-mountain projects including fencing, maze setup, and sign maintenance
  • Serve as a mountain ambassador—greeting guests and helping with questions about the terrain, conditions, and resort offerings
  • Respond well to supervision and direction from Lift Leads, Supervisors, and Managers
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years or older to operate lifts

  • Previous guest service experience is preferred

  • Must be able to ski or snowboard competently in varied conditions

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather for extended periods

  • Punctual, dependable, and able to maintain a positive attitude throughout the day

  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to guest safety and experience

  • Ability to lift, push or pull at least 35 pounds
  • Must be able to work on your feet for at least 8 hours
