Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), medication administration systems, and hospital protocols is necessary. Excellent time management, adaptability, and communication skills are crucial to handle higher patient loads and collaborate with weekend staff. These skills ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care during weekend shifts when resources and support may be more limited.

What are some common challenges faced by Weekend Only RNs and how can they be managed?

Weekend Only Registered Nurses often encounter challenges such as higher patient volumes, limited access to certain support staff, and the need for efficient communication with weekday teams. Managing these challenges requires strong organizational skills, adaptability, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Building rapport with colleagues and staying updated through thorough handoffs can help ensure seamless patient care and a smoother workflow during weekends.

These positions are designed to ensure continuous patient care during weekends when staffing needs may be higher or regular staff are off-duty. Weekend Only RNs may work longer shifts or have different compensation structures, such as premium pay, to account for their unique schedules. Job description

Medsurg/Tele RN with Psych Experience Preferred

Unit Notes **MUST HAVE LEVEL 1 TRAUMA EXP** 50 mile radius rule, DL is source of truth, please include with submission *** Pre-Screens, if clinical recommends, sends to manager for approval to offer, no 2nd interview must pass dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance, traveler has 2 attempts. if failed, RN will be DNU within CS AZ and Sac Region for 6 months *Travel Teams must have their own vehicles *must have natural hair color and no facial piercings *men must clean shave for fit test *pass fail exam on day 1 of orientation - details to follow per mgr: VMU is a telemetry unit so the dysrhythmia exam would be required. Just for clarification, the VMU is a med/surg/telemetry unit for inpatients that may have a behavioral health component and require additional safety monitoring. We are not a psych unit. DAY 1 PASS FAIL SIMs Lab: All RNs will be expected to complete SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion & central line dressing changes, with the exception of NyICU & ED. NyICU only has to do Foley catheter insertion. ED does Foley catheter insertion but does port-a-cath insertion instead of central line dressing change. This is for travelers going to St. Joseph main campus &/or St. Joseph Westgate campus. NOTE - SIMs lab is pass/fail & nurses have been termed during SIMs Lab for breaking sterile field. Those travelers that understand sterile field typically pass SIMs Lab skills (See separate notes for the specific checklist IF traveler asks for additional details). The hospital expects that every nurse is competent in these areas, especially maintaining sterile field, as these are nursing skills that are performed frequently. NOTE: if a candidate indicates that they are not competent in either of these areas, they are probably not a good fit. In addition to SIMs Lab, they will also go through lifts, restraints, & wound care, but these are just educational based since the equipment & policies can be different facility to facility. We are a MedSurg/Tele Unit that specializes in patients with Mental illness. Psychiatric experience is preferred, but certainly not a requirement. I am much more interested in their MedSurg/Tele skills and whether or not the candidate has a desire to work with the mentally ill - Unit: VMU - Visual Monitor Unit - # beds: 14 - Certs: BLS, ACLS; Need MedSurg/Tele RN and Psych experience preferred. - Ratios: 1:4 ratios - EMR: Cerner - Charge Nurse: Charge, has patients - Nurse Aides: Behavior health techs, Security watches via video. - Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend - Holidays: Work in perm staff rotation. - Scrub Color: Navy, and panic buttons - Tele: Yes - Vents: No - Hospitalist or Intensivist in house: Psych MD on unit. - IV Team: SWAT RN available - RT 24/7: Yes - Pharmacy 24/7: Yes - Shifts: 12 hr shifts. 7-7. - Floating: ED psych holds, possibly to MedSurg floors. - Floor specific orientation: 2 shifts. - Common diagnosis / Types of patients: Medical unit with secondary psych diagnosis. Confused patients, dementia, low cognitive ability - Additional Notes: Rare physical restraints. Chemical restraints. All are video monitored by security on unit. 4 days length of stay.
