What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Only RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Only RN, you need an active RN license, strong clinical assessment skills, and an ability to provide comprehensive patient care, often with significant autonomy. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), medication administration systems, and hospital protocols is necessary. Excellent time management, adaptability, and communication skills are crucial to handle higher patient loads and collaborate with weekend staff. These skills ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care during weekend shifts when resources and support may be more limited.

Weekend Only Rns typically hold a registered nurse license and perform more complex medical tasks, working in hospitals or clinics. Weekend Only Lpns have a practical nursing license, focusing on basic patient care in assisted living or nursing homes. Both roles are popular for weekend work, but Rns generally handle more advanced responsibilities.

What are some common challenges faced by Weekend Only RNs and how can they be managed?

Weekend Only Registered Nurses often encounter challenges such as higher patient volumes, limited access to certain support staff, and the need for efficient communication with weekday teams. Managing these challenges requires strong organizational skills, adaptability, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Building rapport with colleagues and staying updated through thorough handoffs can help ensure seamless patient care and a smoother workflow during weekends.

What is a Weekend Only RN?

A Weekend Only RN is a registered nurse who works exclusively on weekends, typically covering shifts on Saturdays and Sundays. These positions are designed to ensure continuous patient care during weekends when staffing needs may be higher or regular staff are off-duty. Weekend Only RNs may work longer shifts or have different compensation structures, such as premium pay, to account for their unique schedules. This role is common in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and other healthcare settings that require 24/7 nursing coverage.

Weekend Mobile Acute Care Nurse II - Baltimore

StatPoint Medical and Chesapeake Vascular Access

Baltimore, MD • On-site

Part-time

Posted yesterday

Job description

Come make history with us!  Our Mobile Acute Care (MAC) team is changing the way care is delivered in the Mid-Atlantic and beyond.  MAC nurses work autonomously to assess patients, then collaborate in real-time with providers to develop and implement care plans that help patients heal at home.

Immediate weekend-only openings (Saturday & Sunday).  We are currently hiring weekend-only Registered Nurses to support our growing patient population. This role is ideal for nurses looking for a flexible schedule while continuing to practice at a high clinical level.

You will work from a company provided vehicle and travel primarily to patient homes around your area.  Baltimore, Silver Spring, NoVA, and PG County/DC are examples of local areas we assign RN’s to.

We are 100% digital – all charting is via apps; we use Microsoft Teams and SharePoint to collaborate along with Apple hardware (iPad or MacBook.)

Our best MAC Nurses have:

  • Extensive experience in acute care: MedSurg, ER, IMC/progressive Care.

  • Solid driving records.

  • Compact State RN licenses and willingness to acquire DC license upon hire.

  • Excellent references.

  • Desire to improve their practice and learn new skills.
