Job description

This hands-on Cashier / Sr. Cashier for Forgotten Angels Retail Operations in Pearland, TX directs front-end checkout activities, manages register cash flow, and welcomes guests/shoppers. This active role requires leadership, ensuring a clean, safe, and friendly checkout space. Senior Cashiers will additionally assist with opening/closing registers, auditing drops, and mentoring junior team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Point of Sale Operations: Process customer transactions, returns, and exchanges accurately and efficiently using the retail POS system.
  • Cash Management: Maintain an accurate register drawer, perform secure cash drops, and count down funds at the start or end of shifts.
  • Customer Service & Greeting: Act as the face of the store, warmly greeting guests upon arrival and thanking them for supporting the mission as they leave.
  • Front-End Organization: Keep the cash wrap area clean, uncluttered, and stocked with necessary supplies like bags, receipt paper, and promotional materials.
  • Proactive Downtime Tasking: Maintain productivity during slow business periods by dusting nearby items, wiping glass display cabinets, and organizing front-area shelves.
  • Volunteer Integration: Guide, encourage, and patiently work alongside volunteers and community service individuals placed at the front end.
  • Impulse Merchandising: Maintain and restock point-of-purchase displays near the registers to drive add-on sales and keep items looking fresh.
  • Mission Promotion: Educate customers on round-up donation programs, upcoming store events, and how purchases directly benefit our "Angels."
  • Senior Duties (Sr. Cashier Only): Assist leadership with register overrides, perform shift-level cash audits, and help train incoming cashiers or volunteers.

All-Staff Commitment

We work as a team. All employees, regardless of title, are expected to:

  • Stay Productive Always: Understand there is always something to do; if your register is clear, actively clean your station or ask a manager for tasks to ensure the store is ready for the next customer surge.
  • Clean Continuously: Wipe down counters, sweep floors, and tidy displays throughout the day.
  • Provide Radical Service: Treat every customer and volunteer with the respect and care they deserve.
  • Promote Safety: Actively look for and correct any situation that could be unsafe for our team or guests.

Requirements

  • Previous retail checkout, basic math, or electronic POS system experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of honesty, integrity, and accuracy when handling money.
  • Ability to work on a flexible schedule, including weekends.
  • Ability to stand at a register for long periods.
  • Ability to frequently lift and bag items weighing up to 25 lbs.
