This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company's locations: Dune Deck Beach Club, set in Westhampton Beach, New York.
Dune Deck Beach Club is seeking Ocean Lifeguards to join the Outdoor Pursuits Department. **This is a seasonal position until September 30, 2026 and current Suffolk County Civil Service Ocean Lifeguard Certification is required.**
The Ocean Lifeguard is responsible for overseeing the safety of our aquatic areas by monitoring and enforcing safety regulations for the pool and ocean areas. In addition to monitoring the water safety, the Ocean Lifeguard will also be responsible for monitoring the pool deck, beach areas, and water slide. In this role, you will be part of creating the Discovery Land Company experience for our members and fellow employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Surveying activity in the pool or ocean to ensure the safety of all our members and guests.
  • Maintain an organized appearance of the pool and ocean area throughout the day.
  • Ensure daily set up and breakdown of all activities and equipment is completed.
  • Report any safety or maintenance concerns immediately to the Beach Director.
  • Enforce pool or ocean rules and regulations.
  • Provide risk management for aquatic areas.
  • Lifeguards will be required to become Ellis certified for both pool and dark water conditions, which includes CPR/AED/First Aid certifications as well.
  • Perform first aid treatments when necessary.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as necessary.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • No specific degree required - though a bachelor's may be desirable
  • 2 years working in an aquatic environment preferred.
  • Current Suffolk County Civil Service Ocean Lifeguard Certification is required.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED Certification required.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions in English, additional languages desirable.

  • Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to deliver service to members, guests, and team members.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.
  • Flexibility and ability to pivot to new projects and a desire to work in a fast-paced environment.
