About Bengal

Bengal provides crane and rigging, heavy transportation, and related industrial services for customers across the Gulf South. Our work demands disciplined planning, strong field leadership, and a safety program that is practical, consistent, and fully integrated with operations.

Position Summary

The Corporate Safety Director will develop, implement, and lead Bengal's company-wide health, safety, environmental, Department of Transportation, loss-prevention, and risk-management programs. This senior leader will partner with executive and operations leadership, oversee the Safety Department and its budget, establish clear accountability across operating groups, and represent Bengal with clients, regulators, insurers, and other external stakeholders.

Success in this role requires a leader who can set corporate direction while remaining connected to field execution - from pre-bid planning and site-specific programs to incident response, training, performance reporting, and corrective action.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the corporate safety program. Develop, administer, and continuously improve health, safety, environmental, DOT, accident-prevention, and loss-prevention policies, programs, and standards across Bengal's operating groups.
  • Partner with operations. Translate company policy and regulatory requirements into practical operating procedures, pre-bid requirements, pre-job plans, site-specific safety programs, and emergency action plans.
  • Strengthen accountability. Work with operations leaders to clarify safety responsibilities, reinforce consistent policy enforcement, address unsafe conditions or behaviors, and align performance with corporate and insurance-cost goals.
  • Direct incidents and claims. Ensure prompt notification, investigation, documentation, formal review, root-cause evaluation, corrective-action closure, and claims coordination for injuries, vehicle incidents, liability matters, environmental concerns, and other significant events.
  • Manage compliance and field assurance. Oversee inspections, environmental reviews, industrial hygiene monitoring, recordkeeping, and timely reporting; represent Bengal during client, agency, and insurer reviews and prepare clear responses or appeals.
  • Use data to improve performance. Direct routine safety reporting, evaluate incident trends and leading indicators, develop corrective-action plans, and measure the effectiveness of safety initiatives and incentive programs.
  • Develop training and compliance readiness. Lead orientation, safety and environmental education, emergency preparedness, first-aid and rescue readiness, and Bengal's drug and alcohol program, including testing coordination and confidential record handling.
  • Lead the Safety Department. Plan staffing, assign resources, delegate effectively, develop and evaluate safety personnel, manage departmental objectives and working relationships, and administer the corporate safety budget responsibly.
Required Qualifications
  • Education and experience. Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, environmental health and safety, business, or a related field and at least five years of construction or industrial safety experience; or approximately 15 years of progressive safety-management experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Corporate leadership. Experience leading corporate, regional, or multi-site safety, including people, budgets, priorities, and performance across operating groups.
  • Regulatory and risk knowledge. Thorough knowledge of applicable health, safety, environmental, DOT, risk-management, insurance, client, and company requirements, with proven hazard-recognition and corrective-action judgment.
  • Incident and claims capability. Experience directing investigations, incident reviews, reporting, trend analysis, agency or insurer interactions, and corrective-action closure.
  • Leadership and communication. Excellent organization, independent judgment, effective delegation, and the credibility to work with field employees, clients, supervisors, and senior leadership.
  • Availability for routine travel to Bengal offices and active projects.
Preferred Background
  • Relevant industry experience. Safety leadership in industrial construction, crane and rigging, heavy transportation, or a similar field-intensive operation.
  • Credentials and relationships. A recognized safety, health, industrial hygiene, or risk-management credential, plus proven success with demanding clients, regulators, insurers, and dispersed field teams.
