Job description

Security Officer

Northern Light Mercy Hospital

Department: Security

Position is located: Mercy Fore River

Work Type: Full Time

Hours Per Week: 40.00

Work Schedule: 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM

Under the direction of the Security Supervisor, the Security Officer is responsible for maintaining the security of the hospital, outside properties and assets. The Security Officer manufactures identification badges using a computerized identification badge system. The Security Officer monitors various surveillance systems throughout the hospital and responds as needed. Position bears a 24-hour duty requirement with necessity for extensive patrolling throughout all the facility areas and must be alert for threats to the safety of the facility and personnel. The incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job. The incumbent may have access to highly confidential patient, employee and/or proprietary information, and must handle & protect the information in accordance with hospital & system policies, HIPAA requirements and the highest level of ethical standards. The incumbent is responsible for reporting all security events, potential events, or other security risks to the organization. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position, and conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Hospital.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains the security of the hospital, out buildings, outside properties and assets.
  • Performs inside and outside patrols.
  • Responds to trouble, security, emergency calls, and demonstrates the ability to respond to an inside outside plan as outlined in the Emergency Preparedness Plan.
  • Performs standby with patients and/or restraint/removal of unruly/combative patients and public.
  • Completes and maintains security logs and forms.
  • Ensures incident and shift reports are completed in a timely manner.
  • Prepares prisoner/patient checklist and lock removal forms.
  • Prepares parking sticker and ID card request.
  • Provides coverage and relief consistent with a 24-hour coverage requirement.
  • Performs shuttle and escort service for employees and equipment shuttle after hours.
  • Parking lot booth relief as assigned.
  • As needed, incumbent will perform patient maneuvers, transport, and mortuary response.
  • Completes computer data entries.
  • Can enter parking sticker request, image ID applications for employees, non-employees, and volunteers' data into computer.
  • Completes Incident Reports and security notices.
  • Be able to research parking and ID badge information.
  • Performs additional duties as required or assigned.

Other Information:

  • Valid State of Maine Driver's license with a clean driving record in accordance with the Northern Light Health driving policy.
