Job description

About All In One Accounting
All In One Accounting is a 7-time winner of the 50 Fastest Growing Companies in the Twin Cities and one of the Best Places to Work in the Minneapolis area. Our purpose is simple: to make the lives of entrepreneurial and nonprofit leaders better. We do that by supporting profitable growth, protecting assets, and amplifying impact - bringing financial clarity and strategic leadership to the clients who need it most. We run on EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System), which means clear goals, strong accountability, and a team that executes with intention.
About the Role
We're seeking a Senior Nonprofit Accountant to take ownership of complex nonprofit client work and operate with a high degree of independence. This role goes beyond day-to-day bookkeeping - you'll bring seasoned judgment, technical depth, and informal mentorship to your team while serving as a primary financial resource for clients managing multiple funding streams, grant portfolios, and compliance requirements. You'll work as part of AIOA's three-person delivery team model, setting the standard for quality and proactive service.
Now About You
We hire for hungry, humble, and smart - and at the Senior Accountant level, those qualities show up with more depth and independence. Hungry means you're proactively improving your clients' financial operations and sharing what you know with the people around you. Humble means you've earned your expertise but you're still the first to ask a question or admit uncertainty when it matters. Smart means you operate with strong judgment, catch issues before they surface, and communicate with the kind of clarity that makes Controllers and clients alike trust your work without needing to check behind you.
Responsibilities & Expectations
Client Responsibilities
• Serve as a primary day-to-day accounting resource for a portfolio of complex nonprofit clients
• Execute day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of nonprofit clients, collaborating closely with your Controller and CFO
• Administer complex fund accounting structures, ensuring accurate tracking of restricted funds and grant activity.
• Lead grant billing, drawdown requests, and funder reporting with minimal Controller oversight
• Identify and resolve complex reconciling items and accounting discrepancies independently
• Informally mentor Accountants on nonprofit accounting standards and best practices
• Proactively identify and implement process improvement opportunities
• Monitor budget variances and deliver clear, actionable analysis to your Controller and CFO
• Prepare and process client payroll with attention to accuracy, compliance, and nonprofit-specific tracking requirements
• Implement and maintain robust internal controls across client accounts
• Utilize current processes and tools, including code red alerts, to proactively identify and prevent fraud throughout all client accounting processes
• Meet or exceed billable hours goals while maintaining service excellence
Internal Responsibilities
• Complete all internal responsibilities including time tracking, capacity planning, and quarterly initiatives
• Actively participate in All In One Accounting's Brand Ambassador program, representing our mission and values
• Uphold security practices to protect client assets effectively
The Successful Candidate Will Have
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or equivalent experience
• Experience in a multi-client or Client Accounting Services (CAS) environment strongly preferred
• 6+ years of accounting experience with significant nonprofit focus
• Expertise in nonprofit fund accounting, grant management, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting
• Proven ability to manage complex, multi-funder client work independently
• Experience supporting or leading audit preparation processes
• Strong technical aptitude across multiple accounting platforms
• Demonstrated informal leadership or mentorship of colleagues
• Excellence in written and verbal communication with nonprofit leaders
