  • Three years of experience in insurance or patient registration in a healthcare environment required.
  • Customer service experience required.
  • High School Diploma or GED required; higher education preferred.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in a business-related field may be considered as a substitute for experience, as approved by department management.
  • Intermediate computer skills required, including experience with Windows, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to enter data accurately using multiple computer applications.
  • Excellent telephone and communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • CHAA certification preferred within 6 months of hire.
  • Must be detail-oriented, dependable, and able to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance.

What You Will Do:
The Patient Access Lead provides excellent customer service throughout the patient access and intake process while supporting registration, insurance verification, collections, patient safety, and revenue cycle efficiency. This role helps ensure patients are registered accurately and timely, supports compliance with hospital procedures, and assists with workflow and team coordination.
  • Accurately identify patients and verify patient information to support patient safety.
  • Complete patient access functions, including pre-registration, registration, insurance verification, and collections based on patient needs.
  • Initiate quick registration when needed for emergent or urgent care situations.
  • Follow EMTALA, payer, hospital, HIPAA, safety, and departmental requirements.
  • Register patients to the correct location and bed based on information from clinical and operational teams.
  • Communicate with insurance representatives as needed to support pre-certification and insurance verification.
  • Maintain accurate patient and organizational records with a strong focus on quality and error reduction.
  • Request, collect, receipt, and secure co-payments, deposits, and other payments according to financial policies.
  • Research outstanding account balances and discuss payment-related information with patients when needed.
  • Activate accounts and distribute records to the appropriate departments according to standard procedures.
  • Serve as a lead resource for the patient access/intake process when the Supervisor or Manager is unavailable.
  • Mentor staff, assist with shift assignments, support daily workflow, and help with workload leveling.
  • Review patient accounts for accuracy and assist with audits, denial reports, and quality control efforts.
  • Support staffing needs, daily briefings, process improvement initiatives, and department quality improvement activities.
  • Precept new hires and help educate staff on new procedures, processes, and patient access expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
