Job description

Position Summary 

Works under direct supervision to perform work assignments for the abatement of mosquitoes and rodents.  
 

Pay Grade: 41H  
 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Two (2) years of work experience, preferably in an outdoor environment; AND 
  • High school diploma or a GED. 
  • Experience in a vector control program is preferred. 
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. 
     

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Conducts mosquito and rodent inspections, documents findings, and reports results in accordance with program requirements. 
  • Applies EPA-approved pesticides to treat mosquito breeding sites and rodent infestations, including evening adulticide mosquito spraying. 
  • Performs manual maintenance work on ditches and natural waterways, including clearing debris, cutting and trimming vegetation, and improving drainage using small tools and equipment. 
  • Operate equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks for the safe handling and transfer of chemicals and materials, adhering to all safety guidelines and receiving proper training prior to use. 
  • Places, retrieves, maintains mosquito traps, and prepares mosquito samples for West Nile Virus (WNV) testing. 
  • Participates in required safety and chemical handling programs, including Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and chemical safety protocols. 
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. 
  • Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers and the public. 
  • Ability to use small and large tools  
  • Ability to understand small engine components and operation  
  • Ability to read and understand pesticide labels and vector control program policies and procedures. 
     

Special Requirements 

  • Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license or secure one by date of employment.  
  • Must be able to work shifts, evenings, weekends, and on call. 
     

Physical Requirements  

  • Must be able to push, pull, and lift lower objects weighing 25-50 lbs.  
  • Must be able to walk on uneven ground, ascend and descend steep inclinations, stoop, squat, crawl, and perform other physical duties as required. 
  • Must be able to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions.
