Job description

NICU Technician

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Randall Children's Hospital is a place of hope, healing, and highly specialized care - where our tiniest patients receive life-saving support for critical or chronic conditions. In these early moments of life, every detail matters, and so does every act of compassion.

As a NICU Technician, you'll play a meaningful role in giving newborns the best possible chance to thrive. You'll provide basic patient care and unit support, while also managing the daily operations of our centralized feeding preparation mixing room—ensuring safe and precise nutrition for our most vulnerable patients.

If you're someone who brings both skill and heart to your work, and you share our commitment to making life better for others, we invite you to consider joining our team.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the daily operations of the centralized Mixing Room in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
  • Prepares all enteral feedings requiring mixing or supplementation using precise measurements and aseptic techniques.
  • Ensures the safe, accurate, and timely preparation of nutritional feedings for neonatal patients.
  • Works closely with the neonatal healthcare team to support clinical nutrition and patient safety.
  • Functions as a key member of a multi-disciplinary care team in a family-integrated care environment.
  • Provides basic patient care and unit support under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Performs a broad range of clinical and operational tasks that are vital to patient care but do not require RN licensure.
  • Assists with tasks such as feeding support, diapering, positioning, and patient comfort measures.
  • Helps maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked patient care environment.
  • Demonstrates compassionate, team-based care while supporting infants and their families in a high-acuity setting.
Qualifications

Skills:

  • Basic patient care and aseptic technique knowledge.
  • Proficient keyboard use and navigation of electronic systems.
  • Accurate math skills, including algebra, under time pressure.
  • Effective prioritization, multitasking, and attention to detail in fast-paced settings.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and organizational abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances.
  • Courteous and tactful interactions, even under stress.
Licensure
  • American Heart Association approved CPR certification required.
  • Oregon CNA certification or Medical Assistant Certification from either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA) required, or LPN or RN license.
Pay Range

USD $22.32 - USD $31.90 /Hr.
