Job Summary:
Our Museum Custodian ensures the Museum is a clean, safe, and welcoming place to play, learn, and explore. This position provides consistent daily care of Museum spaces through routine custodial work, ongoing attention to public areas, and scheduled deep cleaning. This role takes a hands-on and proactive approach to maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the Museum to support exceptional visitor experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a clean, safe, welcoming, and guest-ready Museum environment, with particular attention to the cleanliness and appearance of public spaces.
  • Perform routine custodial care throughout Museum spaces, including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, surface cleaning, disinfecting, and trash removal.
  • Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms and other high-use areas throughout the Museum.
  • Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and other urgent custodial needs.
  • Clean and maintain floors, carpeting, windows, glass, fixtures, and other surfaces using appropriate equipment and methods, including periodic deep cleaning.
  • Routinely inspect Museum spaces and proactively address cleaning and appearance needs, reporting any safety or maintenance concerns when appropriate.
  • Maintain custodial storage areas, cleaning materials, equipment, and supplies in a safe and organized manner, communicating supply inventory needs to supervisor when needed.
  • Complete scheduled deep cleaning, periodic cleaning, and other custodial projects as assigned.
  • Adhere to all Museum safety protocols and procedures.
  • Assist with light outdoor seasonal maintenance and snow removal as needed.
  • Assist with room setup and breakdown for meetings, rentals, and special events as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • At least 3 years prior experience in custodial or maintenance related roles is required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow and enforce established systems, processes, and procedures with consistency and accuracy.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Adaptable and flexible.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Communicates effectively and interacts genuinely with people of all backgrounds, abilities, and life experiences.

What We Offer:
  • Starting salary range of at least $21.00 per hour and will be evaluated commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a non-exempt position.

Work Environment:
  • This role requires an active, hands-on approach, including standing and walking for extended periods and performing physically demanding tasks that require the whole body, such as lifting up to 50 pounds, balancing, bending, moving objects, and handling materials to ensure a clean and safe environment for our visitors.
  • Scheduled shifts include evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Full-time commitment requires a minimum of 38 hours per week.
  • This role follows a rotating schedule:
    • Week 1: Tuesday-Sunday (Monday off)
    • Week 2: Tuesday-Friday (Saturday-Monday off)
  • Employees work a consistent shift schedule, either 5:00 AM - 2:00 PM or 1:00 PM - 10:00 PM. Shifts are assigned at hire and do not rotate week to week.
