Position Summary
The Wade House is a historic house, museum and grounds in Greenbush, Wisconsin. Under the direction and supervision of the Site Director and Head of Maintenance, the Custodian is responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness and sanitation of site restroom facilities, staff offices and work areas, and designated public indoor and outdoor spaces. They are also responsible for working with the rentals coordinator to set up event equipment including tables and chairs, and to take down event equipment after events, and clean the rental event spaces. The custodian will assist with large site events, including the set up and grounds upkeep during events. This individual will perform the following duties and responsibilities in all assigned buildings and locations on the Wade House grounds.
Duties:
  • Clean all surfaces and sanitize restrooms, checking and restocking all supplies
  • Dust, vacuum, sweep and clean offices, work areas and public spaces.
  • Empty public and staff waste baskets and recycling bins, and replace liners.
  • Wet mop floors, halls and stairs.
  • Perform assigned outdoor custodial functions such as emptying exterior trash, recycling and cigarette receptacles, and monitor public spaces including the Visitor Center, parking lots, the Cupboard bathrooms, and picnic areas. Sweep and clean walks and drives, and assist in snow removal.
  • Work with the Rental Coordinator to assist in public and private event set up and tear down needs as assigned, including wedding, banquet and museum activity events.
  • Clean the rental venue spaces thoroughly including sweeping, mopping, removing garbage, and maintaining the restrooms.
Work Schedule:
This is a year-round position Monday - Friday, including some weekend hours during the summer. During the off season the 20 hours can be split between three days if circumstances allow.
Salary Information
Pay is $16.65 per hour with a weekend differential of 80 cents per hour. This classification is in schedule and class 03-08.
Please note this is a Limited Term Employment position so it does not include paid time off or benefits upon hire.
Job Details
A criminal background check will be conducted by WHS prior to an offer of employment to determine if the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job.
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and limited to 1,039 hours. This position will be part time and average 20 hours per week. This is a year-round position.
Wisconsin residency is required for Limited Term Employment positions.
Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to permanent civil service classified positions and do not lead to permanent status.
WHS does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.
Qualifications
  • Be familiar with and able to use common custodial supplies, equipment and chemicals.
  • Must be able to self-start each morning and be able to perform all duties in a swift and thorough manner to make sure the museum is clean, safe and inviting for staff and guests before they arrive.
  • Be able to train, take direction, and follow through with minimum supervision.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills.
  • Be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Be able to work outdoors in inclement weather and under hot, cold, wet or dusty conditions.
