POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Museum Attendant, under the direction of the Restoration Supervisor, keeps the museum and restoration shop clean and in orderly condition. In addition to routine custodial duties, the Museum Attendant will be responsible for cleaning/dusting museum cars and checking tire pressure, as well as acting as the point of contact for museum events and acting as a liaison and attendant for events held at the museum.
ORGANIZATIONAL SUPERVISION, REPORTING AND INTERFACE
This position reports to the Restoration Supervisor and works directly with the housekeeping supervisor, as well as members of other departments within Peterson. This position will also have frequent contact with outside event representatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and/or vacuuming floor surfaces
  • Washing, polishing, and/or dusting surface areas throughout the Museum and Restoration building
  • Performing other general cleaning functions
  • Emptying waste and trash receptacles and disposing of contents in an appropriate manner
  • Monitoring and replenishing supplies in lavatories
  • Cleaning, dusting, waxing, and polishing Museum cars
  • Checking tire pressure of Museum cars
  • Acting as point of contact for Museum events including scheduling, coordinating event set-up with internal housekeeping, and acting as a liaison and attendant for events
  • Other duties as assigned

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Above average ability to deal effectively with people throughout the company as well as outside the company
  • Ability to work under pressure and time constraints with limited direct supervision
  • Experience with automotive preventative maintenance and cosmetic care
  • Must be able to work independently and within a team
  • Must be detail-oriented and organized
  • Possess a cooperative attitude
  • Knowledge of which cleaning substances should be used during particular operations (e.g., cleaning lavatory fixtures)
  • Ability to detect potential problems (e.g., slow leaks) before they become major and to notify appropriate personnel
  • Sufficient knowledge of chemical properties to avoid mixing incompatible substances together

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High School education, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in custodial and/or automotive maintenance and cosmetic care
  • Experience with cleaning silver preferred

ENVIRONMENT
  • Duties are performed indoors at the corporate offices in Grandview, MO.
  • Must be able to reach, and climb occasionally, stand and walk frequently, and lift up to 50lbs occasionally
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others (internal and external) who may have various inquiries, etc. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
